HUNTSVILLE -- Flora Matilda Gillis, 88,
of Hartselle, died Thursday, Feb. 4,
1999, at Hartselle Medical Center.
Twickenham Funeral Home is handling
arrangements.
Mrs. Gillis was born Sept. 24, 1910, in
Thomasville, Ga. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn
Boykin of Hartselle; and three
grandchildren.

ATHENS -- Funeral for Dezzie Lorene
Phillips, 86, of Double Springs will be
Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Spry Funeral
Home with Robert McCafferty officiating.
Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery at
Anderson. The family will receive
friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the
funeral home.
Mrs. Phillips died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999,
at Carraway-Burdick West Medical Center
at Haleyville. She was born March 10,
1912, in Limestone County. She was a
homemaker and a member of Romine Church
of Christ in Rogersville.
She is survived by one brother, McCoy
Warren of Atlanta; and one sister,
Eleanor Fleming of Rogersville.
Nephews will be pallbearers.
- Inez Tillery Tomlinson
90, retired Air Force clerk, homemaker
VERONA, Miss. -- Funeral for Inez
Tillery Tomlinson, 90, of Starkville
will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Lee Memorial
Funeral Home with the Rev. Prentiss
Gordon Sr. officiating.
The family will receive friends at the
funeral home Sunday one hour before
services. Graveside services will be
Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Falkville
Cemetery.
Mrs. Tomlinson died Thursday, Feb. 4,
1999, at Oktibbeha County Hospital in
Starkville. She was born July 5, 1908,
in Cullman County. She and her husband,
Robert A. Tomlinson, lived in Decatur in
the 1930s when he was a pioneer field
man for the Tennessee Valley Authority.
They moved to Tupelo in 1954, where they
resided until Oct. 1997 when they moved
to Starkville to be near their son. She
worked for the Department of Defense as
a clerk in the Air Force Civilian Corps
during World War II. She was a member of
First United Methodist Church in
Starkville and formerly a long-time
member of St. Luke United Methodist
Church in Tupelo. Her husband died Aug.
1, 1998. They were married for 67 years.
She is survived by one son, John
Tomlinson of Starkville; three sisters,
Ethel Howard of Tampa, Allie Stinson of
Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Eleanor Hicks of
Cullman; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tony Mason, Ed
McNeil, Paul Perkins, Sam Patterson,
Bobby Dale, Kurt Hayes and Carl
Patterson.
- Vivian Smith Watkins
78, retired nurse
Funeral for Vivian Smith Watkins, 78, of
Hillsboro will be Monday at noon at
David Temple Primitive Baptist Church in
Hillsboro with the Rev. Curtis Foster
officiating.
The body will be at the church one hour
before services. Entombment will be in
Roselawn Mausoleum with Reynolds Funeral
Home directing.
Mrs. Watkins died Wednesday, Feb. 3,
1999, at Decatur General Hospital. She
was born Sept. 28, 1920, in Atlanta to
Grant and Bertha Parks Smith. She was a
nurse in Cleveland and moved to
Hillsboro upon her retirement.
She is survived by one son, Dr. Robert
Watkins, Bourbonnais, Ill.; one
daughter, Elizabeth Watkins of Cleveland
Heights, Ohio; one brother, Grant Smith
of Beaver Falls, Pa.; two sisters,
Eloise Dudley of Harrisburg, Pa., and
Lela Greer of Coraopolis, Pa.; and five
grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Edward Davis, Danny
Davis, Dale Davis Jr., George Davis,
Michael Davis, Wayne Moore and Titus
Robinson.
