The Great Commission as it Relates to the Online World

What is the Great Commission?"Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."

Mark 16:15 (New King James Version)
But what does it mean?Through the Great Commission, Jesus is COMMANDING us to spread the gospel to all "creatures." This means everybody! It means to share the gospel with people we enjoy being around. But it also means to share the gospel with that person that really "gets on our nerves." It also means to share the gospel with that person that no one else even wants to talk to. Basically, Jesus is telling us to share the gospel everywhere we go, with everyone we meet.
Hold on, there! I'm a shy person! There's no way I can do that!Well, first of all, Jesus didn't ask if we wanted to do this. He simply told us to do it.

But don't worry, yet. Jesus also provided a way to help those of us that are "shy". He sent someone to help us. That someone is the Holy Spirit. Once you have accepted the Holy Spirit, you receive power and boldness to carry out the Great Commission. Now, receiving the Holy Spirit is NOT the same act as accepting Jesus as your Savior. Even though they are both part of 1 God, in certain ways, they are separate beings. Therefore, you must accept the Holy Spirit in your life, separately. Once you do this, you receive so much power that there is nothing the devil can do to stop you.

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth.

(Acts 1:8 NIV)

But what is no one believes me?You just keep on trying! If even one soul is saved, then it was worth all the effort you put forth.

Also, notice that the verse says, "signs will follow those who believe." This means that under the annointing of the Holy Spirit and by the authority of the name of Jesus, the believer will be able to see miraculous signs manifested in his/her daily life. These signs could be as spectacular as the examples in the verse (casting out demons, sick being healed, etc.), or they may be a little more subdued (like just calling someone's attention to the exact scripture they need to hear at the exact time they need to hear it).

But whatever the signs, the believer must trust God to persuade the unbeliever. According to the Great Commission, it is the believer's responsibility to share the gospel with as many people as possible. Then let God take over. God knows exactly what to do to bring that soul to Him.

Okay. But what does that have to do with the online world? The internet is proving to be the tool that will allow us to spread the gospel to the entire world. Many people who could never hear the gospel any other way can sign on the internet. As Christians, we should use this new tool to its fullest extent.
But how? You never actually meet anyone on the internet, do you?Oh, really??? Well, we just met each other, didn't we? We met through a Christian web page. As Christians, we should develop web pages designed specifically to win lost souls to Christ. Also, message boards and chat rooms are GREAT places to spread the gospel. Try bringing up the subject of Jesus on a message board or in a chat room. Visit the Online R.I.O.T. Squad to exchange novel ways to spread the gospel over the internet.

Rember that you freely received your salvation. So, now it is your responsibility to freely offer that gift to others. Think about where you would be now if no one had taken the time to share the gospel with you.
