Hölua:The Revitalization of a Cultural Practice

Nä 'ano o nä Akua a me Känakamaoli o Hawai'i nei

(The ways of the gods and native people of Hawai'i)

He’ehölua - a ritualized form of athleticism that took place over 150 years ago on carefully constructed stone ramp ways in the shadow of active volcanoes and under the aegis of fierce gods. Through practical research this is a native descriptive interpretation of the living cultural landscape relative to the constructing and riding of the papahölua, and the unique relationship hölua has with the indigenous people of Hawai’i and Polynesia.
