In the Bank

I opened the door.  It was early so there wasn't a very long line.  Maybe two or three people in the withdrawal line.  I stood behind the last person in that line.

As the person in front of me moved up, she asked to withdraw five hundred dollars from her account.

"I'm sorry, your account is currently down to two hundred dollars," the teller told her.

The lady paused, "I am sure I have at least three thousand dollars in my account."

The teller checked again and shook her head, "I am sorry.  Are you married by any chance?"

The lady shook her head, "I'm divorced."

The teller thought a moment, "How long have you been divorced?  Have you changed your account number since then?"

The lady said she has been divorced for seven months, but she hadn't changed her account number.  As realization hit her, she asked for the remainder of her money.  I watched her stalk out.  I caught a glimpse of her eyes as they watered with anger.

I stepped up and withdrew fifty dollars without problem.

I had to write this as an in-class assignment for English Composition I.  She gave us the subject.  I asked if it had to be real because I never been to the bank besides outside of one.  She said it didn't matter so I made it up as I went.  Also remember I had a time limit, so use your imagination for more details :)
