Biography of John J. Alquist



A Connecticut Yankee in the "New South" Confederacy

Mr. Alquist is a Connecticut native. He has resided in Charlotte since 1978. Before that, he lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for five years; Northern New Jersey for two years, and Connecticut for his first 32 years. He is a 57-year-old self-employed small business owner--a role he has enjoyed for the past 12 years.

His Dilbert Days In Corporate America

Before escaping the 24 year yoke of corporate employment, he was Vice President and Marketing Director for BarclaysAmericanCorporation, a national financial services firm with an international parent, for nine years.

Earlier employment includes: Vice President, Wells Fargo Bank, Marketing and Advertising Division; Advertising and Public Relations Director, Peoples Trust of New Jersey; Advertising Manager-Dealer Products, Spalding Sporting Goods Company; Direct Response Manager, G. Fox & Company, a May Department Stores unit; Public Relations Assistant, Southern New England Telephone; Editorial Assistant, "The Catholic Transcript."


The Glorious Self-Employment Era

Currently, Mr. Alquist provides small business consulting, typically start-ups and turnaround firms. He and his wife co-own and co-manage WebsiteXpress, a website and Internet services firm. He is also a versatile public speaker. His business experience as an employed executive includes public relations, advertising, market research, product management and Marketing Director positions.

The Personal and Political Stuff

Mr. Alquist is married, and he is the father of four young adults. He has two wonderful grandsons. He enjoys Bible study as his principal hobby, and he is a member of Central Church of God in Charlotte, a Pentecostal Christian church.

Politically, Mr. Alquist has been active as a candidate for school board and was campaign manager for the previous Charlotte Mayor, now a member of the United States House of Representatives. Mr. Alquist is politically libertarian and morally conservative.

A True Renaissance Man

A gifted author, Mr. Alquist's oral communications skills include public speaking, teaching, and preaching. He also facilitates corporate planning conferences, using wherever possible the Nominal Group Technique. He is both serious and humorous, but he is always entertaining and provocative without ever using crude and vulgar language.

He has an avid interest in alternative medicine, based on successful personal experience. He is an avid believer in anti-aging natural medicine, physical fitness, optimum nutrition and a serene, joyful lifestyle.

Coast to Coast and the Carolinas, Too

Having lived in Connecticut, Rhode Island (during college), New Jersey, California and North Carolina, he understands the intense regionalization of the United States, believing that it is almost eight or nine different countries. He has a Bachelor of Art's Degree in Political Science from Providence College.
