You may already know you can type the heart of a .com URL in the Location box to get to it. For example, you can type
ibm
instead of
http://www.ibm.com
But you may not know that the technique works whether you're looking for the site's home page or any other page, no matter how deeply buried in directories and subdirectories it might be. As long as you know the rest of the URL, you can type it in. For example:
netscape/netcenter/marketplace/travel.html
The disadvantage to all this convenience is that it takes Navigator
quite a while to sort things out. So if you're a fast typist in a hurry,
you may find it quicker just to enter the complete URL.
Keeping Your Mail List to Yourself
There are times when you want to send mail to a number of your friends but don't particularly want them all to know they are part of a list. This can be achieved by addressing the mail to yourself and blind copying (bcc) everyone you are sending to. This way each receiver sees only his own name on the mail. There is an added advantage in that as soon as the mail hits your mailbox, you can be sure it has gone out OK.
Following on from AndyG's tips about creating shortcuts to the ESI Bulletin Board from your desktop, Tony Grace offers the following additional advice :-
After placing the Shortcut on your desktop, save yourself the trouble
of reaching for your mouse, or even having to expose your desktop by creating
a keyboard shortcut as follows.
Right click on the icon
Select properties
Select shortcut
Enter a shortcut by alt + k, followed by the shortcut combination of
your choice eg shift + alt + E.
This can be done using any browser with Win 95 ( I think).
This can be done for all the icons on your desktop, including commonly
used folders, Word, etc, etc
Hope this is useful.
