The Way To Tradeby John Piper and Alexander Elder
This book was used as the backdrop to the recent ADVFN sponsored course on Trading Psychology, held by John Piper and received well by all who were lucky enough to secure a place. John has spent over a decade trading full time and his knowledge of trading is forged where it matters - in the heat of the market itself. He teaches you what the market is telling you. He shares his common knowledge of how traders think (because he is one) when the market tells where it is going (or not going). He makes you aware of market behaviour and patterns, so you can them to your advantage. If you can't make the course, read the book!

The Master Swing Traderby Alan S Farley
If short-term trading is what interests you then this is a good book to give you an insight into the tools for uncovering promising short-term prospects, techniques to profit from low-risk short sales, and the four repeating cycles for perfectly timed trades. Detailed charts illustrate Farley's swing trading strategies. Not cheap, but one successful trade using what you learn here will more than cover it!

Understand Shares in a Dayby Ian Bruce
A good starter book. Ian Bruce explains the differences between different types of shares, why share prices fluctuate and how to interpret what you read in the financial pages. He also covers how shares are bought and sold, how risk can be spread, how to build a portfolio and the risks and rewards associated with "penny shares". The book also follows into more detailed concepts such as share valuations and how technical analysis is used to predict share movements. The use of equity options to gear profits and hedge against falling share prices are also covered. |
