The Weekend! Starts here.........

Welcome to the first of a new feature for ADVFN readers - The Weekend!

We're starting with a blank sheet of paper here, so how the feature develops depends a lot on what you want to see. Those who remember the old B-B-Bugle might recall some of the things we did there. That was much more restricted - more by time and resources than anything. Now we have resource available from ADVFN, there are many more options available.

To begin with, there will be a light-hearted review of the BB activity but in the longer term we plan to develop a Coffee Shop atmosphere which will include a weekend chat facility.

I hope you will let me know what other features you would like to see here and then I will be able to judge how best to develop the site. From next week I will be introducing Thread of the Week and Poster of the Week and, you never know, we might be able to persuade The Management that these are prizeworthy.

The Weekly Review

Early in the week, Wessex was rightly peeved that good results from Aukett Associates resulted in a fall in share price. Aukett results good so obviously marked down .25 !!!! was joined by capablanca who reckoned the results were already factored into the price but lazygun saw it as an opportunity to top up and red army cast the blame squarely on those naughty MMs! I must say, I have some sympathy with Wes as the company looks in good shape and the share price is some 50% off its high for the year. I guess Architects just ain't sexy!

Losos had plenty of takers for a free ride in an SUV back in January (Torotrack - Good News?) but wasn't too pleased about the possibility of the company selling out to Ford as lhasa pointed out was the latest in a long series of Torotrak rumours. Mad Mac was more interested in the Antonov alternative which Rayrac had introduced earlier (Antonov! Russian Up?), bemoaning the lack of interest in the company. They are two completely different products but with an overlap in potential market. It will be interesting to see how the battle develops, especially with some big wheels like Fiat entering the fray with their own alternatives.

DUC...will the shorters close now? from pinoyjenz drew only a cagey response from naplion who never did say whether he invested or not. Durlacher shares have had a bumpy ride since the share split but looked to be making a bit of a revival Friday. You might even be in profit soon pinoyjenz!

A good old-fashioned in-your-face ramp from bella@VP (Media Content Looking very good) could do nothing to move the price in the right direction. Moneybags, Vertigo and Pippin were just slightly sarcastic about the performance of Media Content but what can you expect from a bunch of old cynics like that! (I'm still holding some of these from way back so just keep on ramping, please!)

One might have been excused for thinking that Rayrac's Advanced Dumping? was to become a deep philosophical discussion on never-to-be-mentioned bodily functions, but it was, in fact, bringing to light the sale of shares in Advanced Power Components by a Director and his wife. Picguru suggested there was more interest in looking at it from the perspective that institutional buyers had more of an opportunity to buy in if Directors sold. Tonsil, fft and Blueflame are obviously fans of this one too, the latter pointing out that the current breakout has taken the share price to a new year's high and shows no sign of running out of steam. Only the ridiculously small NMS (1,000) seems to be holding this one back at the moment.

When I saw Limpy's Something No Serious Investor Should Be Without thread, I thought we were in for another lecture on the benefits of those squiggly line things with double bottoms and pennants. (loose cannon and I seem to be on a par as far as charting goes!) But it was all a lot of hot air! Well, helium actually. "The dream of flying a remote controlled airship indoors is now a reality." Where is the world going? After the transistor and the microchip, now we have the miniature Zeppellin! DocProc has seen one in action in Sheffield Arena (or had he just spent too much time in the bar of the Enfield pub?) and there they were carrying ads. Don't know whether that is what Limpy has in mind but if it is, let's hope its advertising Training Courses and not coiffeur! As for Smallchange - well, I think it might take more than one of these babies to get you off the ground old buddy.

For those of you who tire of RNS, check out Not the AFX News from AnthonyJB. Although written in AJB's very own tongue-in-cheek style, there are often a few potential nuggets in there worth following up.

An excellent appraisal of Internet Incubators from ghhghh was a perfect way to end the trading week on the Premium BB. If this is your area of interest, don't miss it!

Meanwhile, in the land of the Free.......

Shrewd Dude and hightone were wondering how Internet Direct were going to spend their cash horde in Internet Indirect cash reserves much greater than Market Cap and Thakrar's silent introduction to Logica, entitled Logica a good medium term buy.....nm, was eventually picked up by midas, goforit and hepster this week, fired by rumours of big new contracts just around the corner. If you want a good read, try taking a look at the long-running Hello I'm new to trading and I am petrified, can someone help me which is a mixture of mickey-taking and genuine advice - I leave you to sort out which is which. Brown Trousers is probably the only one who really knows the answer! I'm particularly interested in Bio-Optic Organised Knowledge. Thanks mat, I must get some of that!

Good Hunting!

I had the good fortune to meet up with the Regional reps in London this week, DocProc, Learjet(and his delightful wife), Stable, TechNet, Losos, Aquila, Pitbull, Mealiff, March and Smellybogbrush (who is not really that smelly at all). I would like to thank you all for sharing your thoughts and ideas with me. I'm sure we can find ways to make The Weekend! help your cause.

(Please E-Mail me if you have any comments regarding the review - either content or format. Your opinions will be valued)

I would like to develop a Who's Who of the ADVFN BBers. Nothing too detailed but enough to give everybody a vague idea of who we all are, where we come from and where we think we're heading. To start the ball rolling, I have produced a short bio of yours truly below. Ultimately, I hope we can index the list so that I can hyperlink to users bios in the Weekly BB Reviews. If everyone can include the geographic Region in which they reside, it could also be a useful tool for the Regional reps to use to keep contact with BBers in their particular areas. You can also include e-mail contact addresses and homepage URLs if you wish but I would strongly advise against including telephone numbers.
