Owen - Let us entertain you

2 JULY 2001:

Michael Owen believes Liverpool will be the team to watch in the Premiership next season.

As the Liverpool squad prepare for the new campaign on the back of their cup treble last season, the Anfield striker has insisted the Reds will provide the best entertainment when the big kick off arrives in August.

He says: "If you want entertaining football, I suggest you watch Liverpool. I will tell you this, I would swap the three cups to be Premiership champions next season. It will be hard to follow last season but winning the championship is the only way we can do it."

Owen also insists he isn't worried by manager Gerard Houllier's policy of squad rotation. He says: "The best players are never rotated. A lot is made of the rotation policy but it really is based on whether you are playing well.

"The manager will pick whoever is in form. There might be the odd occasion where he will give you a rest if you've played ten straight games, but you don't get rotated if you are playing well.

"Steven Gerrard and Emile Heskey played in the vast majority of games because they have played well."
