Kreese’s TOP 200 SONGS

  1. Sweet Emotion – Aerosmith. ("Sweet Emotion. Talk about things nobody cares. Wearing other things nobody wears. You call my name but I gotta make clear. I can’t say baby where I’ll be in a year." Simply the best song I’ve heard. They may be better but hey I love Aerosmith so this is top)
  2. Drain You – Nirvana ("the water is so yellow I’m a healthy student. You’re my vitamins" Kurt Cobain went on record once as saying this was his favourite song he’d written.)
  3. Love Spreads – The Stone Roses ("Love spreads her arms, waits there for the nails.")
  4. The End – The Doors (11 minute Jim Morrison classic. "this is the end, my only friend the end". Used in Apocalypse Now to great affect. "he took a face from the ancient gallery and he walked on down the hall")
  5. Purple Haze – Jimi Hendrix ("scuse me while I kiss the sky")
  6. Smells Like Teen Sprit – Nirvana (The song of the 90’s youth generation. "With the lights out it’s less dangerous here we are now entertain us. I feel stupid and contagious. Here we are now entertain us. A mulatto. An albino. A mosquito. My libido." And at the end he’s singing "A denial")
  7. Highway to Hell – AC/DC
  8. I Wanna Go Where The People Go – Wildhearts (pub song number one no longer on the jukebox at the Black Cross. Curses. "I want to go where the c*nts like me are buried 6 feet underground")
  9. One – Metallica (I thought it was unusual that One is track 4 on the album lol. "I can’t remember anything. Can’t tell if this is true or dream. Deep down inside I feel the to scream. This terrible silence stops me."
  10. Desire – U2 ("Yeah lover I’m on the streets, gonna go where the bright lights and the big city meet. With a red guitar on fire. Desire")
  11. Song 2 – Blur ("Woooooo Hoo and I feel heavy metal")
  12. More Human than Human – White Zombie

  18. Big Empty – Stone Temple Pilots ("time to take her home, her dizzy head is conscience laden. Time to wait too long. These conversations kill." I used to crank the volume on this one on a Sunday morning)
  19. For The Love Of God – Steve Vai (Dreamy guitar song. 6 minutes of Steve Vai playing music to make you think you were in heaven. Soft drums help Steve’s guitar sound more crystal clear and the notes can almost be felt drifting through the air towards you. He plays at unbelievable speed in places too.)
  20. Bohemian Rhapsody – Queen (accompanied by the first ever music video. Also in Wayne’s World. Made headbanging in cars more common. There are too many quoteable lines in here just listen to it. This is a classic and I doubt if there is anyone anywhere who disagrees.)
  21. Under The Bridge – Red Hot Chilli Peppers (Under the bridge downtown is where I drew some blood. Under the bridge downtown I could not get enough". Another song about drugs. Particularly heartfelt and personal for Anthony Kleidis of the Chilli Peppers. How All Saints can get away with covering this I don’t know it should be illegal to screw with perfection.)
  22. Iris – The Goo Goo Dolls (Very special song. When I heard it first Tourette was singing along and that’s how I remember it. It’s our song and it’s beautiful. Just like she is.)
  23. Lucky Man – The Verve (my song. When I sit down and think about it life’s been good. Maybe not great but it could have been worse and I still have one thing to cling to)
  24. Dragula – Rob Zombie (nice hat Rob)
  25. Self Esteem – The Offspring ("Late at night she knocks on my door, drunk again and looking to score. Now I know I should say no but it’s kind of hard when she’s ready to go. I may be dumb. I’m not a dweeb. I’m just a sucker with no self esteem." Song about rejection. Found comfort here many a time.)
  26. Buddy Holly – Weezer ("oo ee oo I look just like Buddy Holly and you’re Mary Tyler Moore. I don’t care what they say about us anyway. I don’t care about that." Good live song.)
  27. Nice guys Finish Last – Green Day ("Don’t pat yourself on the back you might break your spine" Great song to start off a party atmosphere. Great way to start an album)
  28. Killing In The Name – Rage Against The Machine (Amazing live hearing thousands of people scream Killing in the Name of and F*ck you I won’t do what you tell me. Rage’s signature song.)
  29. Run To The Hills – Iron Maiden (Song about the invasion of America driving out the native American people. "Women and children and cowards attack")
  30. Street Spirit (Fade Out) – Radiohead (Our copy of this CD is currently with Tourette so this piece of musical splendour can only be heard on one side of the Atlantic. Not that I’d have it any other way. Anything for the happiness of my nearest and dearest.)
  31. Nancy Boy – Placebo
  32. Richard III – Supergrass
  33. 100 Mile City – Ocean Colour Scene
  34. Amazing – Aerosmith (song about Steven Tyler’s recovery from drug abuse. "In a blink of an eye you finally see the light". Highly personal song and those always score big when you know what went into them)
  35. Everything Zen – Bush
  36. Light My Fire – The Doors (greatest piano solo in rock music. "cmon baby light my fire, try to set the night on fire")

  39. Common People – Pulp ("You’ll never fail like common people. Watch your life slide out of view. Then drink and dance and screw cause there’s nothing else to do")
  40. Alice What’s The Matter – Terrorvision ("something bout you really picks me up like a hot cup of coffee in a hot coffee cup. Feels like a Saturday man easy going")
  41. Jumper – Third Eye Blind (lovely but simple guitar solo makes this song so very listenable)
  42. The Beautiful People – Marilyn Manson ("I don’t want you and I don’t need you. Don’t bother to resist I’ll beat you" Marilyn Manson is scum plain and simple. I like the way this song sounds but the lyrics plain suck. He’s trying to be clever he’s trying to shock. It doesn’t impress me, music is about music and always will be for me. Which is why I never listen to any band just because there’s a girl in it that looks pretty like some people.)
  43. I Can Dream – Skunk Anansie ("pain is your beauty, it hurts the vision in your eyes. Your eyes are smiling now they watch me cry they watch me die. I can dream. I can dream. I can dream that I’m someone else.")
  44. Sabotage – The Beastie Boys (normally I’m not a big rap fan but the video for this song won me over)

  46. Mama Kin – Aerosmith (Steven Tyler has this tattooed on his arm)
  47. Better Man – Pearl Jam ("she lies and says she still loves him, can’t find a better man, she dreams in colour she dreams in red." Eddie Vedder’s most personal song. About his mother and how she stayed with Eddie’s step father although he beat her.)
  48. The Perfect Drug – Nine Inch Nails
  49. Black Hole Sun – Soundgarden (a high point in an impressive career for the Seattle rock band. "In my eyes, indisposed, in disguise, as no one knows, hides the face, lies, the snake, the sun, in my disgrace, boiling heat, summer stench, neath the black the sky looks dead, call my name through the cream and I’ll hear you scream again")
  50. Infinite Dreams – Iron Maiden ("Infinite Dreams I can’t deny them, infinity is hard to comprehend.")
  51. Been Caught Stealing – Jane’s Addiction ("When she wants something and she don’t wanna pay for it she just walks right through the door")
  52. Monkey Wrench – Foo Fighters (No one though Dave Grohl’s post Nirvana project would do so well. They surprised everyone and this is a prime example of how he’s only slightly distanced himself from Nirvana to get his own sound.)
  53. Kung Fu – Ash ("cmon Jackie Chan, oh oh oh oh oh" Amazing live song full of energy)
  54. Ready To Go – Republica (They made a big splash over here with a new sound. Lead singer Saffron’s red hair was very distinctive too.)
  55. I Alone – Live (a song that will always remind me of the 2 best summers of my life. "I alone love you". First summer was the one it came out and I was over seeing my brothers after finishing high school (they live in the US) 1995. The second was 1998 summer when I got to meet Tourette. After I’d been to see her Iris meant more but this was our song for a while. I still think of her "I alone tempt you")

  60. Shit List – L7 (Used in Natural Born Killers as Juliette Lewis stamps on a cops head.)
  61. Live Forever – Oasis ("I said maybe I don’t really wanna know how your garden grows cause I just wanna fly. Lately did you ever feel the pain, in the morning rain, as it soaks you to the bone" My favourite Oasis tune I believe their first single)
  62. She Said – Longpigs (Longpigs lead singer is called Crispin Hunt. True story)
  63. Setting Sun – Chemical Brothers (Helped by a spooky video and contribution from Noel Gallagher)
  64. Breathe – Prodigy (finally a song that made dance accessible to rock fans and made heavy guitar accepted by dance people. A real boundary crosser loved by just about everyone. Very rare.)
  65. Blind In Texas – WASP ("I live in California what I am supposed to do get on a horse and ride all the way back to LA" "Yeah don’t fall off")
  66. Fates Warning – Iron Maiden ("Are we the lucky ones saved for another day, or they the lucky ones who are taken away" A real thought provoker this one. Disturbingly 9 years old yet I clearly remember buying this lol)

  77. London Calling – The Clash ("London Calling to the far away towns" like mine for example calling me to watch Aerosmith in June)

  91. Stairway To Heaven – Led Zeppelin ("there’s a lady who’s sure all that glitters is gold and she’s buying a stairway to heaven")
