Welcome to my web page.

My name is Ann Staggs.  I am a student of life and learning is a goal that I attempt to reach each and every day.  For without learning new things in life you become stale, then bored, then boring, and then you accelerate the rate of dying. Learning keeps your mind young and active, a true goal of the maturing generation.

Some of my interests are reading, writing, photography and pottery. I also enjoy sewing at times. I volunteer at the following radio station, KPFT 90.1 FM in Houston. One of my interests is helping the families and friends of the approximately 160,000 incarcerated inmates/offenders in the Texas penal system endure the time that their loved one is away from them.  By volunteering at the station, I feel that I contribute to the mental health and sometimes to the physical health (by contacting the medical department or their families to encourage them to become active in the well-fair of their loved one.).  You see, I have a vested interest in the health and well-fair of the offenders, as I am married to an offender.

I am the Phone Coordinator/ Co- Producer for The Prison Talk Show that airs on Friday night from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m...  The first hour of the show is the talk part of the show.  It covers issues of the Texas prison system and mail from the inmates to the host, Ray Hill.  He encourages the inmates to write to him about the different issues that are pending that affects them.  The second hour of the show enables the families and friends of inmates/offenders to communicate with the offenders via the phone, over the air.  My job at the show is to answer the phone calls and enter them into the computer in preparation for the callers to talk to the inmates.  Mr. Hill is the one that introduces the callers to the listening audience and encourages them to say what they need to tell their loved one.  It is a great service to both the listening audience and the offenders. We have listeners from all over the world that call the show to talk to the inmates.  It is not unusual for us to receive calls from Europe, New Zealand or Australia on any given Friday night.  All can listen to the show via the internet.

For getting to know more about different inmates/offenders try reading about them on http://survivingthesystem.com  This is a site provided for the inmates to submit their life stories and some of their writings for the public to read.

The two young ladies in the photo are two of my four granddaughters.  They are the light of my life and make being a grand mother a pure joy.

I am enrolled at Montgomery Community College at this time.  I hope to expand my knowledge of computers and business to aide in my becoming an up to date grandmother.  I want to be able to help my grand daughters with their projects in the future.  They are lively young ladies with great futures and I want to be part of it.  Both enjoy animals and working with them.  They live on a ranch and have access to all sorts of animals.
