Historical Person of the Week:
I became the first European to set foot on the shores of North America, and the first explorer of Norwegian extraction now accorded worldwide recognition. My title as the first European to land in "the new word" received the stamp of official approval in the USA when in 1964 President Lyndon B. Johnson, backed by a unanimous Congress, proclaimed October 9th , " MY DAY."

Composer of the Week:
I was a French poet and the most accomplished and versatile composer of the 14th century. As a young man I accompanied the king on military expeditions and developed a distinct fondness for falconry, horseback riding, and adventure. My four-part Messe de Notre Dame is the earliest known polyphonic setting of the mass by a single composer. I later became a canon of Reims, where I resided from 1340 until my death.
