Smithing is an important part of runescape. It is one of the ways to get your own armour.
To smith you need metal bars. To get the metal bars you need to mine.
After you have collected ores you take them to a furnce and use the ore with it. Certain bars take certain ores...
Soft Clay~1 Hard Clay and 1 Jug or Bucket of Water
Bronze Bar~1 Tin Ore and 1 Copper Ore
Iron Bar~1 Iron Ore (there is only a 50% chance of getting a bar)
Silver Bar~1 Silver Ore (100% chance of getting a bar)
Steel Bar~1 Iron Ore and 2 Coals
Gold Bar~1 Gold Ore (100% chance of getting a bar)
Mithiril Bar~1 Mithiril Ore and 4 Coals
Adamantite~1 Adamantite Ore and 6 Coals
Runite Bar~1 Runite Ore and 8 Coals
You need level 20 smithing to smelt silver ore and you get __XP for smelting the ore.
You need level 40 smithing to smelt gold ore and you get __XP for smelting the ore.
After you have smelted your ores into bars you can then smith them into weapons or armour with a hammer. Just use the bar with an anvil and have the hammer in your stock. Then choose the item of your choice.
