The Interior
Well this is the interesting and creative part of the project, there are colors, designs and comfort it be included in this part (Without comfort the car won't be as much fun to drive).
Remember that you are not going to please everyone, thats why you do the interior to suit your likes.
The Plan
Well the plan is to modernise the interior of a LX Torana, some die hard fans are not going to like this project but as i said earlier im not trying to please them.
The biggest change im planing is the Dash, to convert the old flat dash to a modern style dash with some shape to it, after seeing an artical in a commodore magazine about a guy who put a VS dash in a VB Commodore, i thought id give it a go in the torana.
Well there are a few problems involved in this transfer.
- The width of a Commodore from front pillar to pillar is 100mm wider than a Torana.
- The commodore is longer from windscreen to steering wheel than the Torana, and
- The Toranas' dash supporting structure is higher than where the VR-VS style dash sits.
So what does that mean, Balls big enough to grab a Grinder and have a go (or just shear stupidity)
Id like to say from the start of this project im not a panal beater so its all arse not class.
The following pic is of the original Torana Dash structure
Now after the Hacking
Firstly the two pics are from different cars. As you can see in the second picture the structure has been removed right across the front leaving only the area where the steering wheel attaches, the VR dash itself has had some modifications shown in the next pics
These pics are taken during the early stages, if you look close you can see that there has been material removed from both ends of the Dash, there has also been material removed from the rear of the dash as well.
The next pic give a good view from the front of the car
This pic also gives you some indication of the amount of material removed from the front of the old Dash Structure. the remaining seam under the window is used to form the new dash shape and will be covered later.
The dash isn't sitting in place properly in this photo but it sits flush with the left over strip of the old dash, this will eventually be covered. If you are still awake, than you may have noticed that there is no room for the windscreen demister vents, these are going to be relocated in the roof, more to come at a later date.
