Chapter 5
Marana

I lifted my head up out of the snow and opened my eyes. There, hovering in front of me, was the Dragonfly, Kudo. I grinned slightly and said,"You came back." Kudo frowned down at me and said,"You need sleep and warmth. Come back to the cave with me. I'm much to small to carry you. You'll have to find the strength somewhere within yourself. Come on. We have to work together." I nodded and shakily stood to my four frozen paws. I wobbled slightly as I took my first few steps. Being abandoned by Clyte was the worst thing that had befallen me yet. I thought about the warmth of the fire, the dirt floor and rock walls. We were slowly making progress, but it was too slow. I shook my head and changed to unicorn. Though I couldn't feel my ears and my mane was frozen, my wings were in working order. I knelt down and told Kudo to climb onto my back. He hopped up and held on tight. I spread my wings and jumped into the air. At first, I rode the wind backward, but when I had mustered up my strength, I flapped my wings and flew against the wind toward the cave. A quick swoop to the left, a dive to the right, I tried to keep my wings from failing me. I flew against the icy wind until I reached the cave. There, I immediately turned to human and ran toward the fire. It was still burning brightly when I reached it. Kudo was close behind me. We sat down together and huddled close to the fire. When I was warm, I leaned against the rock wall and tried to rest my weary body. Every form of mine was weary. It was awful. Kudo licked my hand and looked up into my face. "Everything will be alright, Sarah. I watched the whole thing from afar. I set it up like this. I'm sorry, I had to do it." I opened my eyes and looked down at Kudo in amazement. He had set me up! Kudo held up his scaly hands and said,"Let me explain before you torture me!" I sat back and glared down at him, waiting for the story. But soon, I was too tired to glare and just rested my head against the rock and listened. "I know you're the Dragon Slayer. I know you told me to keep your name a secret from Clyte, but I couldn't do it. You see, there's something special about you. You just haven't discovered it yet. Only ‘the' Dragon Slayer can do it. I've heard of it. It's been passed down from Dragonfly generation to Dragonfly generation. This is the story. When the prophecy was told, the unicorn flew off to different dimensions. She gave each dimension a different piece of the prophecy. Sort of like a different piece of the puzzle. Some creatures from the dimension you came from came here. They told us of the prophecy in their dimension. Word gets around, but this one prophecy has never spread. It is told, that when the Dragon Slayer comes, she will have the ability to open dimensions without a key or golden stick. She must only think of the dimension she wishes to go to. Then, she must grab at the air and make herself feel something. It will feel like rubber. She must pull the rubber apart and step into the doorway she makes for herself. She will go into the next dimension and her door will disappear. It is told, that she may do this whenever she wishes. But only if she is ‘the' Dragon Slayer." I gazed at him in amazement. "So, you couldn't tell me this when Clyte was around or he'd learn the secret too. You also knew that I could get back to my home. Why did you wait so long to tell me?!" Kudo smiled and said,"The experience in this dimension has made you stronger. Now, all can truly call you the Dragon Slayer." He bowed to me and kissed my feet. "We have waited long, Princess Sarah. Please fulfill your destiny and take your place as the rightful Dragon Slayer." I nodded and said,"This is amazing. I can't believe it! Wow! I'm the Dragon Slayer? How can you be sure?" Kudo nodded his head to me and whispered,"I can feel it." I looked at my hands and felt differently. I was to save all the creatures in all the dimensions? What an honor! "One more thing, Princess," said Kudo. I looked over at him, wondering how there could be more. "There was a creature from the dimension with Ferar Trees that told us another piece of the prophecy. The creature said that you are to name all dimensions. They knew that all Ferar Trees would die. It had been prophesied in their land along with the dimension prophesy. But, back to the main prophesy. You have to name every dimension you go to. The Sparkle is only the name for the box and key, as you know. So, now you have to name the dimensions." I smiled down at him, my eyes wider than they'd ever been. "This is really incredible. Lets see if I really am ‘the' Dragon Slayer. First of all, I'm going to name this place. Hmmm, I think I'll name it Chrenon." Next, I grabbed him and told him to hold onto my arm. He nodded and hung from my arm. I reached toward the air and made myself feel something. Ripping it away, it really did feel like rubber. As I pulled the rubber into a doorway, a list of dimensions came into my head. They were all pictures of the separate dimensions since they weren't yet named. I blinked my eyes when a picture of the dimension with Ferar Trees appeared. I stepped through and the old snowy cave disappeared behind me. I grabbed Kudo from my arm and hugged him. "It worked! I can't believe it! This means I am ‘the' Dragon Slayer! Awesome!" I laughed and swung Kudo around and around. He laughed with me and told me he had known all along. I finally set him down and ran off to the east. I had appeared where the charred Ferar Tree stood. I would find the rock, get the feather, then find my little Razor. I ran and ran and ran. Kudo eventually caught up to me by flying and asked,"What are you going to do now?" I laughed and said,"I have to find the remaining Ferar Feather and my wolf friend Razor." Kudo nodded and flew ahead of me. I turned unicorn and spread my wings. It was much warmer here than in the last dimension. Feeling in my ears came back to me, and I could feel my mane flying freely. As I flew, I noticed a rock below me. I swooped down and changed to centaur. Kudo came down just as I had gotten the feather out. "Look! Clyte was right! He saved the Ferar Feather!" I laughed with joy and held on tight to the feather. After running for a while, I gave the feather to Kudo and let him fly and hold onto it. I changed to unicorn and flew beside him. We kept our eyes to the ground, sweeping this way and that for Razor. I finally spotted him and let my wings totally collapse. I landed hard, but I didn't care. I got right up and ran to Razor. I changed to human and picked him up. He was sooo heavy! "Razor!" Razor looked up at me and exclaimed,"Sarah! I thought you were gone for good! Where did you go? How'd you get back?!" I laughed and told him the whole story within a half hour. Razor was truly amazed and even happier that we'd confirmed my being the Dragon Slayer. Razor wrapped his paws around my ankles and laughed. Then he asked,"So, what are you going to name this dimension?" I smiled and said,"Marana. That's what I'll name it. Marana." Kudo smiled and said,"That's a great name." "It's perfect!" exclaimed Razor. He was almost full grown now. Being about seven months old or so, he was quite large. I reached into the air and grabbed at the invisible rubber doorway. I pulled the rubbery substance apart and waited for my friends to step through before following them. We walked right into the Big Room. There, Brayan was making an announcement. I held my head up high and walked toward the platform. Unicorns and centaurs stepped out of my way. When they felt my power, the realization began to sink in. They bowed to me as I passed them. By the time I was a fifth of the way to the platform, Brayan had ceased speaking and was staring. I walked on, knowing everyone knew in their heart of hearts that I was the Dragon Slayer. I approached the platform and stopped at the steps. Brayan stared down at me, clearly shaken by everyone kneeling on the ground. He stepped to the side as I walked up the stairs. I stood on the platform and looked Brayan straight in the eyes. I saw fear in his eyes as he realized who I was and what I had become. He quickly bowed and stood up to face me, tears in his eyes. "Brayan, my friend," I said, as I gathered him into a hug. He held me tight and whispered,"I thought you were lost forever." I smiled and said,"No Brayan, I'm back, I'm back." I held him tight and silently wept on his shoulder. When I pushed myself away, I said,"It's so good to see you." Brayan looked at his feet and said,"It's even better that I see you. I wouldn't be much of a leader without you. I ended up crying for at least an hour after I'd heard Clyte had come back without you. I also thought someone else might be the Dragon Slayer. I guess Masia, also known as Sarah, knows she's not the one, since she bowed to you." I nodded in understanding and looked out over the crowd. "Sarah!" I called. Sarah stood and ran to me. She came to the steps of the platform and stopped. "Sarah, you are relieved of your work and studies. You may go back to your normal life." Sarah, or Masia, smiled gratefully and thanked me. I nodded and told everyone to rise, for I had just noticed that they were all still bowing. I laughed and announced,"Lets have dinner!" And of course, everyone agreed.
