Chapter 10
Captured, Tied, and Thrown To the Side

      I cried out.
There had been an ambush set up for me. No, they didn't have the Werewolves with them, which meant they were in Tryn Myaad. That was almost a relief.
I made no sound as they tied my wrists together. I tried to see who had captured me, but my head wouldn't turn that far. The hands gripping my wrists were cold. I had no idea of what it could be.
"Make no sound, and I'll keep you alive," it commanded.
I wasn't planning on yelping anyway, so it was an easy task to keep quiet.
      "Hugh!" grunted the creature.
It made no sound afterward. I looked around me. It was Jikson! He had been waiting for me, captured me, and then become the victim. Who had gotten him?
      "Ahhmmmmm..."
My scream was muffled. I wriggled to escape the creature's grasp. I looked around, but there was nothing to be seen. Only the forest and Jikson. Whatever it was, it was invisible. I was starting to really hate invisible creatures.
I stopped making noise, since my mouth was covered, and worked on breathing. The creature covered my nose as well as my mouth. I struggled and pulled my hands free of the rope that had been tied to them by Jikson. I grabbed at the hand holding my mouth, but it was hot! I yanked my hands away. Its hand felt like coals in a fire, for when I had touched it with my hand, it had heated up. My mouth burned. I felt like I would never get away from this creature. My air was almost up. What would I do? I tried to kick the creature, but I couldn't find its legs. It yanked me around and jumped into the air. I fainted from lack of air.

      It whispered something my ear.
I was just waking up, and I wasn't too happy about what I was in. I didn't even have to open my eyes before I knew I was in a cage. I rolled over and opened my eyes. Yes, I was in a cage. The bars didn't come underneath, for it wasn't a portable cage. I rolled my eyes and sat up. Sitting a few feet away from the cage and leaning against a wall was a creature I had never laid eyes on before. I stood to my feet and walked to the bars of the cage closest to the thing. It was crouched down, had its back leaning against the stone wall, and was scratching its chin. I cocked my head to the left and looked at the strange creature. I touched a bar.

      "What happened?" I angrily demanded.
The creature wasn't saying anything. It just stared at me with those cruel yellow eyes and a scowl across its lips.
I had just woken up again. When I had touched the bar, something had happened. I was in the same room as before, but the bars of the cage looked different. I was afraid of the bars, now. What would they do to me? Right then I was trying to figure out what the last bars had done to me. The creature would say nothing about the bars. It said something to me, which I couldn't understand.
I watched the creature walk out of the room. It took its time on getting out the door. Then it positioned a guard in the spot it had been sitting and disappeared from the room. I watched the guard sit across from my cage and stare at me with the same icy glare the other creature had, had.
I wanted to get a better look at the thing. My vision wasn't working well, since I'd een bumped around and knocked unconscious so often. With a glance over my left shoulder to make sure my cage was big enough, I changed to a wolf like Razor.
I thought for a moment and decided to change the name of the wolf Razor was to a Worlf. I changed the name from Wolf because Razor had long shaggy fur, teeth to his chin, and he could speak, as well as stand on two legs. The name seemed to fit, and I figured I'd tell him about it later.
The creature jumped to its feet at the sight of my change.
I looked at my cage a little better. It was about eight feet wide, eight feet high and ten feet long. The ground was dirt, and the metal bars looked like they were several feet buried in the dirt. Horizontal bars went around the cage every two feet.
I trotted to the bars and looked at the creature. It was about the size of me. I was a little bigger than a wolf, and it was about the size of a normal wolf, which made it smaller than me. It looked an awful lot like a coyote, only it had the coloring of a dingo. The thing had yellow eyes, and if looks could kill, this creature would do a good job of it. It had been crouched down over in the corner like the first one I'd seen, so I guessed it could stand on two legs. I could stand on two legs in my form but was quite wobbly. The creature had fur about as long as a coyote's, but it wasn't as course. In fact, it looked amazingly soft. It had longer ‘fingers' on its fronts paws than do most dogs. It also had an opposable thumb, which made it look quite strange. In fact, I supposed these creatures could pick things up with their paws.
I jumped back when the creature approached me. It sniffed the bars of my cage, then put its nose between the bars and sniffed. I knew it was trying to find what kind of an animal I was. I scooched up a little closer, but out of reach of the creature's teeth.
"I would like some water, please," I tried.
It jumped back, still sniffing, and answered,"Iour pondra colaren teooon."
I lowered my head and stared at the creature. It couldn't speak English! I didn't know what to do. If I couldn't communicate with them, how would I ever get dinner?
"Iour pondra colaren teoon?" I said, trying to make it a question.
The creature jumped back and growled. I thought quickly.
"Oooowwwwrrrr, oowr, ooooooowwwrrrrr, rrrrrrrrrrr," I tried.
It perked its ears up and leaned forward.
"Oooowwwrrr, ooooooowwwwwwwr, oorrwwooo, rrrrrrwwwoo, rrrr," I tried again.
This time the creature jumped to its feet and scampered out of the room. I sighed, relieved it had worked.
You see, every creature has a different sound for its species. Razor told me there was a dimension where all wolves used to live, but they weren't all the same. There were different types of wolves. When the wolves were brought to other dimensions for work, they began escaping and living on those dimensions in packs, like on their home world. He said there was one language every wolf understood. It was called the Grrrrr Code, kind of like the human Morse Code. Well, with a howl, a growl, and a little knowledge, one could talk to any wolf using that code. If they knew the code, of course. Razor had insisted on me learning it as soon as I had settled down and become Queen, so I had kept my promise. He had taught me everything where was to know about the Grrrrr Code. I was using it, and I had just told the creature to get me some food and water.
The creature hurried back, balancing bowls on its paws as it swayed back and forth. I stepped away from the door and crammed myself in a back corner of the cage. The creature set the bowls down in the left front corner and shut the cage door again, making sure it was properly locked. I hurried to the bowls and lapped up the water. There was food in one, but I wasn't very hungry. Plus, I didn't know what was in the food. I stayed away from it.
"My name is Wolfette," I told the creature in Grrrrr Code.
It cocked its head to the side and replied in Code,"My name is Jukid."
I smiled, showing my fangs, and said,"That's a great name."
It looked at me curiously and replied,"So is yours."
"What kind of an animal are you?" I asked it.
"I'm a Tanja," answered the animal.
"I am a Worlf," I told the Tanja.
"I've not heard that term before," it replied curiously.
"I've not heard the term Tanja before either," I said.
Jukid smiled and sat down near the cage. "You're a pretty clever wolf, or excuse me, Worlf. But you're not clever enough."
      I smiled and asked,"Why's that?"
Jukid's smile grew even greater as he said,"Because you're in here. You obviously can't be too smart to be caged up like this."
I shrugged my shaggy shoulders and replied,"I'm not a real Worlf. At least, not most of the time. I'm originally a human, but there's been a lot of ‘switching' going on lately. There's been so much chaos lately, I don't really know how to be cautious anymore."
Jukid nodded and looked harder at me with his piercing yellow eyes. He was searching for something, and I wasn't going to give it to him. I turned around, walked to the back corner and curled up for a nap. He continued staring at me, trying to figure something out. Then he was called out of the room, and I had some peace and quiet.
