Chapter 15
The Magni Tero's

"Here they are," said Tormran as he set a bucket in my cage.
I looked around and thought a minute. I couldn't very well go through the things in the bucket without my hands. I didn't want to change, but I knew I had to.
"Would it be alright if I became a Tanja?" I asked Tormran.
"You can do that?" he asked me, trying to mask his excitement.
      "Yeah, with your permission."
"Sure, I'd like to see what a smart girl like you looks like as a Tanja," he said and winked.
I couldn't help smiling as I changed. He was too much like my husband, but only in a couple of ways were they alike.
"Wow, you're looking fine, dog," he complimented me.
"Yeah, well keep your trap shut," I said, adding a small smile to lighten things up.
I couldn't help noticing that he was looking me over as I went through the rocks in the bucket. I finally came across something that looked like it might work. It was a black crystal and looked like coal. I rubbed at it and found it to be quite smooth.
"I need to get outside in the noon sun. Think we can manage that?"
"We'll have to sneak out the back door. No one knows I'm not in the doctor's spot right now. They won't check today, since they're all skinning their catches."
I nodded and thanked him. He hurried off to get me some breakfast, and I looked over the rest of the crystals and rocks. Yes, the first specimen would do nicely. I set it down, ate breakfast when it was delivered, and dropped on the ground for a quick nap. I waited around till Tormran came to get me and take me out into the noon sun.
"Here, look at the reflection of this piece of rock," I said to Tormran as he trotted up beside me.
      "It's called Brosbite," he commented.
"See the way it reflects in the sun?" I asked him.
"Yeah, I see it. How's that going to solve our problem between worlds?" he asked.
"Well, you said the worlds were being blocked by a creature. Remember, the creatures are made into flashes when they come out of Tryn Myaad and to the between world. If we block the flash, we can get through. All we have to do is reflect the flash. Remember, a flash is only good if it's in the right spot. If we reflect it to another side in between worlds, we can get through. It'll take some work, but I think if we make some precise cuts into the ‘Brosbite', as you call it, we can reflect the guard and pass through other worlds. Of course, we would leave our cut Brosbites at home if we were to travel to Tryn Myaad, or we would keep them hidden."
He was looking hard at the ground. I guessed he was trying to decide whether or not it would work. Finally he nodded his head and looked up.
"Yeah, that just might work. Come on, let's get down to the Sawyan," he said and got up.
I grabbed the Brosbite and followed him. We entered a small trap door in the dirt and descended the damp, dirt stairs. It was chilly downstairs, but I had to get the Brosbite cut before I could solve the jumping problems.
"Here's what we'll use," Tormran told me.
He wiped dust off an older looking machine. It had a large blade on the end that looked strong enough to slice through anything.
"Give me the rock," he commanded.
I handed over the Brosbite and watched him trying to calculate it in his head. I gave him a few suggestions on the general information of the cuts we would need. He set the Brosbite under the machine and walked around to the back of it. I followed, for I had a collar on.
"Tormran, be careful. I sure hope you have some spare Brosbite."
"Well, it's kind of rare around here, but we can find it easy. I keep a store of Brosbite in my pyramid room. I hide it behind a block. It's pretty good for trading if you're desperate and want some meat. I try to find and save as much as I can. I usually trade it off in the winter, but I've got some spares at home."
I watched him cut the Brosbite for five minutes. He was very meticulous. I was glad he was being so careful with the rock. I didn't know exactly how thick it needed to be or anything, but I didn't want him to get careless.
"Follow me," said Tormran as he walked over to the rock.
He picked up the rock and started walking back up the stairs. I followed, staying close behind him.
We were back by my cage. Tormran let me back in my cage. He slipped the Brosbite through the bars and let me look at it. It was quite a nice specimen.
"This should work," I commented, looking the rock over carefully.
      "You think so?" he asked.
"You made some nice cuts. It should work," I told him.
He held out his paw for the Brosbite. I handed it over to him and watched him study it. He turned it over a few different times, then stood up. My collar was rubbing against my neck, and it hurt immensely. I didn't know why it chose to bother me right then. I rubbed it against the wall, but it did no good. Tormran always let me off the magnet leash while I was in the cage. He had done the same thing a few minutes ago, but now my neck hurt badly. I stopped rubbing it and whimpered. I didn't know what would sooth the soreness.
"Now there's only one problem," mumbled Tormran to himself.
      "What's that?" I asked.
"Well, you see, the Brosbite is what keeps you from jumping dimensions."
"That's the reason I've not been able to escape then. I've tried over night to escape to Marana, but nothing seems to work," I commented.
"Exactly. There's Brosbite in the bars of the cages around here. We don't know much about jumping, but we do know that Brosbite disables the ability," said Tormran.
      "Okay," I said.
"This collar also has Brsobite in it, but we fixed the affects. You see, at first, when I put this collar on you, it disabled your ability. Then, just yesterday, I reversed the affects of the Brosbite with a crystal called Merke. If you liquidate the Merke crystal and insert some of the liquid Merke into the Brosbite, you disable the Brosbite. Therefore, you enable yourself to travle through dimensions, even though you've got Brosbite on."
"So, what you're saying is that you've come to trust me a bit, and you believe I won't run?" I suggested.
"Well...not entirely. But I do plan on taking that collar off you when I put you in this cage from now on," replied Tormran.
"How does this Merke stuff reverse the affect the Brosbite has on abilities?"
"First of all, it only disables the traveling ability. Secondly, it's very complex. Buuuut, since you're pretty smart, I'll explain it to you. Now listen carefully.
"You know about molecules and how small those are. Well, there is a small something inside the Brosbite and the Merke that is as small as a molecule. These small, round, disabling and re-enabling pieces are what we call Tantay and Tanteya. The Tantay is for disabling, while the Tanteya is for re-enabling. The Tanteya is useless without the Tantay. Althought, the Tantay is not useless without the Tanteya. The Tantay disables the jumping abilities. If the Tanteya is combined with the Tantay, it will reverse the affects, and you will be able to jump worlds. This only happens if these small pieces are put into the same piece of matter, like the Brosbite on your collar. This only goes for nonliving things. If, say the Tanteya were put into a creature, the creature would radiate the Tanteya through its body heat. By doing this, the Tanteya acts with the Tantay, and the affects are the same if you had put both pieces into a single piece of matter. I added some Tanteya to the Brosbite to disable the disabling affect of the Tantay, therefore enabling you to travel dimensions," explained Tormran.
"So...only Brosbite has Tantay?" I suggested.
      "Correct," answered Tormran.
"Wow, how neat is that! Is this Tanteya poisonous to humans?" I asked.
"Not at all! In fact, a few Tanjas have even inserted some of the liquidated Merke into themselves so the Brosbite's Tantay will have no affect on them," said Tormran.
"Very interesting. So, what you're saying is that we would have to put Tanteya, or Merke, into each of these rocks if we were to travel?"
"That's my point exactly. I think if we drill a hole, melt some Merke, and fill the hole with it, the Merke will dry and stay inside the Brosbite. Then we'll have our two chemical pieces to disable one another."
"And you have Merke," I guessed.
"That's right. I brought some with me. I figured you'd be up to something like this, and I knew it would only work with some Merke. Come on."
He pulled some Merke out of a corner of the room. He walked over to a back room and filled up a pot with water. He set it over a fire to warm up. We waited for about a half hour until it was hot enough. The Merke melted easily when the fire was that hot. Tormran let me out, and I watched what was once a clear crystal liquidate and float to the top as a filmy residue. Tormran grabbed a crude metal spoon and slowly scraped the liquidated Merke off the top. Finally we had most of the Merke out. Tormran put me back in the cage and left for the Sawyan, the placed we'd cut the Brosbite. As far as I could tell from just studying the Brosbite, Tormran had taken the cut Brosbite, drilled a hole, and poured the Merke in. When he returned, we waited about a half hour or so for the Merke to dry. It was time to test it out.
      "Let's go," said Tormran.
I hurried over to the cage door and waited for it to be opened. He swung the door open and looked at me curiously. I dropped my head and scratched at my collar. No good, it hurt even worse!
"I'll take that off if you promise to stay beside me and obey," he said.
I nodded my head vigorously, waiting for the collar to be removed. Tormran reached down and took the collar off. I didn't quite know how he got it off. I'd never been able to get it off myself.
      "Come on," said Tormran.
We walked out of the pyramid and stayed close to the buildings. Not wanting anyone to see that I was free, Tormran told me to stay close behind him. I followed his lead, waiting when he stopped and running when he went. I was out of breath by the time we'd made it out in the country again.
"Well, here we are. Goodluck," he said.
Tormran gave me the Brosbite and told me I was to test it out. He said since it was my idea, it was only fair that I should reap the rewards or consequences of trying it out. I nodded and promised to be back soon. I parted the air and stepped through the doorway, expecting to appear in Marana.
      "Get out of here!"
I turned around and saw Razor leap for me. I ducked and rolled. He hit the ground behind me. I turned around to speak, but he was already to his feet again. He ran at me, mouth hanging open, teeth flashing in the daylight. I yelped and turned tail. I didn't want to hurt him, but he was gaining, so I turned around and hit him in the shoulder. He spun around, losing his balance, and landed in the dirt. I growled fiercely, getting ready to speak again. He charged me. I jumped to the side and grabbed his neck as he flew by me. He turned and bit my ear. I held on to his neck. We wrestled for a moment. I pinned him to the ground, my paws placed strategically on his shoulder and hip.
"Wait a minute! It's me, Sariah!" I growled at him.
He blinked and took a closer look at me. "Sariah?" he said, looking quite surprised.
      "Yes, Razor! It's me, Sariah!"
"You're back! What have I done? I'm so sorry, Miss!"
I laughed, too happy to see him again to be mad. I let him up, and he gave me a hug. I told him what had happened and ran over to get the piece of Brosbite. I showed it to him, telling him how it had all worked. He was very excited by the time I'd explained it all to him. Then I told him I had to go, because someone was waiting for me back in the other world. I told him the name of the other world was Clondeen, and that I hoped to be back soon. In a couple of days, maybe. So he let me go, but not without one more hug. I waved, opened the doorway, and returned to Clondeen.
"You're back! Good, I wasn't sure if you'd made it or not," said Tormran when I returned.
"Yes, it works perfectly," I said. "This shape is perfect."
The shape he'd cute the Brosbite into was beautiful. It had a triangular end that stretch long for about two inches and ended in another triangular end. It was wonderfully crafted, and I told Tormran so.
"We've got to make more. We'll start working on that in the next couple of days," he said.
I looked at the crystal and commented,"It's a magni tero."
Tormran looked at me strangely and asked,"What's a ‘magni tero'?"
"‘Magni' means dark and ‘tero' means crystal in the Dragon language," I answered.
"That would make a great name for it," commented Tormran.
"Oh, I wasn't even thinking of naming it. I just thought that's what it looked like, the way you cut it and all," I replied.
"Well, "Magni Tero' makes perfect sense. Good job, dog, you just named your idea."
I smiled and looked at the rock closely, replying,"Yeah, I guess I did."
