Movie Reviews

Treasure Planet

This movie is one of Disney's greatest movies of all time and high on my must see over and over and over list. Not your typical treasure island, but then neither is Muppet Treasure Island. You can't help but love all the good guys and hate all the bad guys. Then there is John Silver, the usual "Lead" bad guy in the story. In Treasure Planet, however, you go between dislikeing him, knowing that he's up to no good, and thinking 'he's not so bad after all' through out the entire movie. Jim is great voiced by Joseph Gordon Levitt, who is actually close to the age of the character for once. Emma Tompson does a wonderful job as the Captain, who reminds me of Jane. Tough and quick witted she is an excellent character. B.E.N. and Dr. Doppler are also wonderful characters with wonderful voice talent behind them. The last of the great characters is Morph, a little pink blob of goo that can morph into all kinds of crazy things, who takes the place of Silvers parrot. In all it's an excelent movie that everyone will like. I give it a full 5 stars and my friend Vicki gives it a total of 6.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Do not be fooled by all the hype over this movie. The only way I think it would be good is if you didn't read the book first. I could not help but sit through the whole movie nd critisize to my self or to my friends. The people who deserved quite a bit of screen time, mostly Ginny, moaning myrtle, Colin Creevy, Lockhart, any of the Weasly's other than Ron, and Mr. Malfoy, didn't get the time. Also, as in the first movie, there is no Peeves. On a sader note, Dumbledore did not look as healthy and there was something in his voice, both for obvious reasons. This is one movie that is better left for renting when many people can see it at once for the same price as or cheaper than one movie ticket. Let's hope the thrid one is better.

The Ring

One word for this Movie. Freaky. It's not all that bad acctually but the faces of the people that die are pretty freaky and the way they look in photos or videos after they've seen the tape adds to it. There are two parts that are good parts to close your eyes if your going to do it at all. One is when with the horse on the ferry when it jumps and when the guy is upstairs in the bathroom with the tape. You'll know them when you get there. It was slightly confusing at times, but some of it does get explained later though not all. Over all I thought it was a decent movie. I do think though that it is one that you see once to say you've seen it and that's it.

Sweet Home Alabama

I thought this movie was incredably good. It was cute and sweet and Reese Whitherspoons character has some really good moments, like when she goes back to Alabama and gets back at Jake. I personally liked Jake better than the new York guy, but I like guys like Jake better than the rich New York, High Society guys anyway. Although the New York guy is very very sweet and really does love her. It is deffanitely a chick flick. but go see it and injoy it. The sound track includes, "Sweet Home Alabama", of course, a song by Uncle Kracker, and the song "Mine all Mine" by the Dixie Chicks. The Dixie Chicks song is very, very good.

Crocodile Hunter

This movie may not sound all that great, but it was very funny. I saw it with a couple of friends. Even though when I described it to one of them i did a terrible job and she wasn't sure it was going to be good she liked it. The idea of the movie is that a crocodile in Australia swallows the "Black box" of an American satilite that was destroyed when it re-entered earth's atmosphere. The US Government sends a couple of guys to retrieve it. Meanwhile, Steve and Teri are shooting a Crocodile hunter episode. While they're sooting the show, they get involved in a rescue mission. They think that the American's are out to just poach the Crocodile, when all they want is the "Black box". Like I said, my description of the plot is terrible, but it really is a funny movie. The ending song is a remake of Elton John's Crocodile Rock by Baha Men.

I Am Sam

This is a wonderful cry movie. At different parts through out the movie, people could be heard sniffling. It has its funny moments, and its sad. Sean Penn does a wonderful job as Sam. You really feel for his character. Through out the whole movie I continually wondered if the out come would be good or bad. One thing that doesn't make sense is the character Annie played by Diane Wiest. I was very confused by her. Over all it was a great movie. I recommend it to every one, but take some Kleenex because tears will fall.

Return to Neverland

Return to Neverland is a wonderful sequel. One of the few of the Disney animated sequels that I really like. There are a few lines that my friends and I just cracked up laughing at. The only thing I didn't really like is Nana 2. I like the dog and all, but they kept calling her Nana 2. I personally would have called her Nana 2 once and Nana the rest of the time. Anyway, the whole idea of the movie is that Hook, in his attempts to capture Peter, and kidnaps Jane, Wendy’s daughter, thinking she is Wendy. He uses her for bait, but the plan backfires. Jane doesn't believe in anything that's happening which is not good for fairies. Peter Pan gets captured, but manages to escape. And the end, well, I never would have expected the ending. This doesn't have anything to do with the movie, but I was also very impressed with the theater where I saw Return to Neverland. It was clean, the sound was remarkable and there is no such thing as a bad seat in the theater.
If you like Disney, or even just liked Peter Pan, go see this movie.

Ice Age

A couple of friends and I bravely went to a matinee of Ice Age. It was very cute and sweet. It's the same concept as Monsters Inc. but with its own style. I personally liked Diego the saber-tooth, while my friend liked Manny the mammoth. Then there's Sid the sloth who is the comic relief of the trio. The Fourth member of the main cast is Scrat, who really doesn't do anything except try to hide his acorn. He gives the movie breaks from the other three animals and has very funny moments. There were a lot of kids and it was packed. If you want to see it, go in the evening, if at all possible, wait until it's been out for a week or two, or at least get to the theater early. It was definitely worth dealing with all of the kids to see.

40 Days and 40 Nights

I’m not going to say too much about this movie. About half way through it started to remind me of American Pie only instead of sex being the goal celibacy was the goal. It is rated R for very good reasons. There is quite a bit of foul language and nudity. I didn’t like this movie as much as the American Pie movies, but it was not bad.

Spirit

This is a good children's movie. Brian Adams does a wonderful job on the soundtrack. One thing I liked besides that it's animated and about a horse is that no animals actually speak. Matt Damon is the voice of Spirit's thoughts and memories acting more as narrator than a horse. I loved the animation, the vivid colors and the action. It is a good moie, but then again I am a very biased judge on this one.

Star Wars Episode 2

Ok, I saw Episode 1 about a month ago. I really liked it. I like Episode 2 much better though. the #1 reason? Obi Wan. He was younger in 1 but seemed to have more screen time in 2. I also liked the unfolding of the romance between Amidala and Anikin. Also, Yoda kicks but. Literally. That was great to see tiny little Yoda fighting. All around it is a good movie, but you might want to wait to rent it.

Lilo and Stitch

THIS IS THE GREATES DISNEY MOVIE EVER! I love Beauty and the Beast, and Belle will always be my favorite Disney woman, but Lilo and Stitch has pushed it to #2 in my favorites. The water color backgrounds are perfect for the Hawaii setting. They are very soft and pleasent. Through out the movie, you really feal bad for both Lilo and Stitch. Both are outcasts who find and change each other for the better. One thing that is noted in the summer issue of Disney Magizine is that no one dies in this movie. I found this to be a very interesting first. The movie is accompanied by Elvis classics and cute little Lilo is a huge fan. This is a great movie, but be aware, that there is a sad little part starting where Nani, Lilo's sister, and lilo are sitting on a hammock. It ends with Stitch leaving. I teared up at this part. And I am not the only one. It is not a guarentee teary, but it is possible. This movie is a must see ASAP and see over and over again. As of July 3 I am working on seeing it a 3rd time and more.
