to handle multiple functions.
Exhibit room:
The theme of the exhibit room is "Agviq, The Bowhead Whale."
IHC is currently working on a community curation project with the University
of Alaska Museum on a community curation project which will personalize the
Center to link objects to community members of the North Slope.
Qargi - Storytelling Place:
Place for elders to tell stories. Also features Arctic leaders
who contributed to the Inupiat Community. Quotes and brief biographies accompany
most ofthe photographs.
Multipurpose Room:
The Multipurpose Room is the largest room for activities,
attracting up to two hundred fifty people at any given event. This room has
provided space and support for community activities and functions such as public
meetings, public hearings, drum dance practices, art and craft sales, tourist
cultural programs, science lectures, family gatherings, potlucks and celebrations.
The room is equipped with a kitchen and has audio/video recording capabilities
including space for simultaneous translation equipment. There is a separator
wall between the Multipurpose Room and the Classroom allowing for expansion
of the room.
Traditional Room:
The Traditional Room is a center for traditional community
activities that promote economic development and the transmission of Inupiat
knowledge. The Traditional Room provides a place to prepare skin boats, build
sleds, and process skins for boats and clothing, and provide space for local
artists and craft persons to practice their trade and share their skills with
