Returning an overdue book? Sneak it back in and shelve it yourself. When the inevitable late notice arrives in the mail, call the library and have them check the shelves for it. Sure enough, they’ll find your book on the shelf and delete the fine, assuming a dozy clerk stuck it on the shelving cart without checking it back in.
