Kinds of Dogs: Two dogs that are usually used in mushing are Alaskan Malamutes and the Siberian Huskies. These two dogs are different from each other. Alaskan Malamutes were used by eskimo people called Mahlemiut. The Malamute dogs were  large freighting dogs, that are capable of pulling heavy weight. The dogs were also used for transfering food back and forth from small villages. Siberian Huskies were used by the people from the northeastern Siberian, also called the Chuckchi people. They used the huskies for herding reindeer and pulling loads. The huskies were smaller and faster than the Malamutes. A few other dogs some mushers also have are bred hounds, bred retrievers, grey hounds, and alaskan huskies.

Food: During the summer, the mushers usually go through 60 pounds of food a week, but in the winter, it increases. They usually feed the dogs food that are high in protein and fat, such as fish.
