My partner and I picked this very important subject,
Communication
Satellites a.k.a Comsats because it is a keystone in the world of
technology.
How Comsats have evolved and become something so important to the
world has puzzled us so we chose this subject because of that.
The research took much time and effort, but it did
teach us a lesson, a
very valuable one, that nothing comes without any hard work. On the
Information Highway we have found many sources, but many repeated
the
same information, but others also gave a better analysis on the history
of the
Comsat. The internet may have been our main source of primary and
secondary sources information, but it was the library that put the
project
into perspective.
It may have been hard to go to five different libraries:
the school
library, Montebello, Monterey Park, Rosemead, and San Gabriel. The
wealth of resources that we obtain was well worth what we spent to
go to
them. There were so many books on our History Day topic, but we only
used
the best ones on the shelf. The people working at the four libraries
were very
helpful in our search for sources that the trips we took to the libraries
were
always very productive and valuable to the project.
Designing the website was the hardest part of this
History Day
project. We worked on the computers in the library many times during
lunch
and after school. My group used 2 html editors to write the website
which
were Dreamweaver and Yahoo Sitebuilder. Programming with Html and
Java Script and doing the links took most of the time. Out of three
letters,
and many phone calls only one replied. Dr.
Benhard E. Keiser is an expert
in Radio Engineering and Satellites answered one of our email interviews.
The email interview explained much about comsats and what they can
do.
Comsats were and are still very important to the
world. These
satellites developed during the period of time called the Cold war
and the
Space race. These events were the major causes of the development
of the
comsat. Communication Satellites were used in the past as a tool to
spy on
the Soviet Union and show the US superiority over them. America always
wanted to be the best and today that is still true today, but they
beat us in the
beginning of the space race so the US Army started the 1st communication
satellite project. Because of this the Cold war ended many years later
with
Ronald Regan stating that we had something in space like in Star Wars.
Also
Comsats have created many new industries involving space technology.
Most of the world's richest countries including the
United States
have economies based on information and every year more companies
are
using the internet to sell produces. Communication Satellites have
put
importance and value in information services. Comsats have made the
the world more educated because of the information it brings with
the
internet.
