Impact

Comsats all started during the Cold War Era in 1958 when the US Army started Project Score.
America thought that Russia was our ally, but when they didn’t want to leave Eastern Europe
so we began to use Comsats as a tool to spy on them because we  feared that they would
destroy our way of life (capitalism). The space race was another important cause. When
Russia became the USSR they had also put a satellite into space a year before us
and America wanted to be the number one in the field.

Forty-seven years later in 2005 Comsats are now a major part of the US and world economies. In
the year 2003 1.7 trillion dollars were spent on Comsats in worldwide business activity
creating about 80 billion dollars in revenues for telecommunication companies. Communication
Satellites have put importance and value in information services. In forty-seven years
Comsats have liberated telecommunications from the need of a wire to connect a sender to a
receiver, reduced the cost of a  long distance phone call from ten dollars a minute to one dollar
a minute which includes inflation, and has educated us on Aerospace.

Comsats have impacted us in a positive way and what Comsats have done of us can not
be expressed completely. Communication Satellites has lowered price fluctuations which has
made our economy more stable. This is one of a few resources that can provide universal
connectivity for both rural and urban markets for the same price. Comsats is a real
keystone it represents one of the most significant applications of space technology. Today
America’s economy is based information and Communications Satellites has given us tools
like the Information Highway which has prepared my generation for the challenge of today’s
rapidly growing global economy.
