that stored messages and then replayed them later
to

transmitting ground station.
Echo 1 was a big metal coated
balloon that reflected signals
from
a transmitting station back to the
ground.
Telstar
which was built by AT&T and launched on 7/10/1962
was
the
1st real time satellite that relayed TV transmissions between
the
USA, Europe, and
Japan.
The
1st commercial Comsat was Early Bird for the
Communication
Satellite Corporation by Hughes which handled
all
types of network
traffic.
In
1990 Leo (low earth orbit) Comsats were created so the
tracking
stations don't have to follow Comsats with their
antennas
