On this page I have placed some of the articles I have written over the years. These have have all been published and have appeared in Outdoor Notebook, Field Trial Magazine, Bird Dog & Retriever News and several other publications. I use all of the techniques and principals mentioned in the articles in my training program at Arrowhead Kennels and in the Training Modules sold on this site.

Pick A' The Litter

This one gives you the information to choose the best puppy from any litter. If that's possible.

Checkin' In

Is a story about what I consider to be the most valuable piece of training equipment you can own, a checkcord. It gives you information on how to teach your dog the right way to do things without the cost and trauma of electronic training collars.

Stoppin' On A Dime

Gives you a proven way to whoa break your dog. 'Cause a dog isn't really broke 'till he's whoa broke.

Backin' Off

This one gives you the basics you need to teach virtually any dog to back or honor another dog's point.

Shyin' Away

Here I give you the basics on how not to make your dog gun shy and include the methods you can use to try to fix it if you do.

How Stella Got Her Groove Back

A story about a tragic hunting accident with a happy ending.

I hope you enjoyed reading these stories, and I hope they made you smile and perhaps gave you a few ideas on training your dog. Remember to train a bird dog you need five things, time, equipment, birds, location, and knowledge. If you're like most people and are lacking one or more of these five essential ingredients to successful dog training, contact me at Arrowhead Kennels. Though I am not presently in a position at this time to help with time, birds, location, I can help with equipment and know-how. I have designed and developed a series of training modules and put together a list of equipment for those who, for what ever reason, choose to do it themselves. These modules are carefully designed to help virtually any amateur to train their own dog and make every hunt an enjoyable, rewarding experience. If you are intrested in knowing more click on the Training Program button if not feel free to look around the rest of the site and I wish you good luck and great hunting.
