These are the pass side Spitfires right out of the box

"Installed" to find out the fit and any problems. There were a couple that Harold was supposed to have taken care of. I left the exhaust studs in the head and had to open up the two end holes up to 3/8". Also, you have to jack the pass. side motor up for clearance. I had to loosen the drivers side mount at the k-frame as well to make things easier. Also, installing the header bolts in the #2 and #8 inside bolt locations, as well as #6, before mounting it to the head will make your life easier. And tighten them equally otherwise you'll never get them all started.

As you can see, the fit is tight. Here is a good shot of the dipstick on my 727a tranny. I had to modify the bend quite a bit to get it to run straight up the firewall instead of curving quickly out into the engine bay and right in the way of the collector. A 904 tube looked like it would need less modification but would still need to be messed with (I used one to plug the hole every time I pulled the 727 tube. Watch out for a flood of tranny fluid if you pull the tube!)

This is under the car. You can see the interferance of the factory mounting ear on the tranny. I simply cut it off with a sawsall and ground it smooth with a die grinder (make sure you cover your tranny hole!!!!) Once it was gone, I was able to slide the collector ring back a little further.

Since I left the studs in the head, I had to do a little more clearance work on the firewall side of the #8 cylinder tube. Still can't get a socket on it but was able to get it tightened down. With a regular header bolt, you may be able to get it started.

This was my main problem. The 90 degree A body oil filter adaptor bolt. It took about 8 installs and about 3/8" clearance but it now fits. The adaptor had to be turned to where the oil filter is pointing between 1 and 2 o'clock (looking straight on at the adaptor from underneith). I also used a Fram PH43 shorty filter. I'm not sure there is enough room for the standard filter.

This is the side view of the clearance dimple in the collector. I ended up having to put a little more clearance than this in it. Again, Harold is supposed to have fixed this.


This is the header blasted and ready for coating. You should check the fit of the headers before sending them out for a high dollar coating job. I just used Eastwoods High Temp coating

This is the mounting of the collector ring. The ring that Harold sent never made it, so I had to scavenge one from another set of headers while I wait for the one Harold is sending (been almost 3 weeks)

This is inside the collector where the "Y's" come together. Be sure to check this area out as I had about 1/4" overlap all the way around the hole. A die grinder smoothed it out nicely but it was a good thing I had to cut the collector tube off 2.5" for clearance. I wouldn't have been able to get to it otherwise. I alerted Harold to this problem but you may want to check your headers.
