Sleepwalkers

We now walk in a league of sleepwalkers
Interested in the ideals and judgements
Of those around them
And conforming to them
A herd of lemmings marching blindly to a cliff
They question not the fate before them
This is what they see
This is what they view as life
And freedom, Blind that they are
Freedom comes when your mind is your own,
Not that of your neighbor's.
Life touches you if you blaze a trail
Not following the footsteps that lie in the snow before you
Where now are those that taught us to free
Ourselves of the bondage we call society?
Jack Kerouac where have you gone?
Even he had a chain to his neck with an addiction
But don't we all have our addictions?
Be it love or hate; drugs or alcohol?
We can still be free and live life
Provided we allow our minds
To be ripped from their place
And allowed to roam and experience...
all
Open your eyes you dreary nation
See what lies before you
Free yourself from years of oppression
Bring forth a tidal wave of intellectual outpour
She the cover of the generation before us
Destroy the past in fire
And Rise like the new Phoenix
