Guest starring:

Christmas, 1999. Officer Lopresti puts a rat in Kareem Said's Solitary Confinement cell. Said is sent to the hospital with a rat bite. Robert Rebadow and Agamemnon Busmalis suspect something bad will happen within the next week.

Sister Peter-Marie talks to Shirley Billinger on death row, and Billinger refuses to tell who her unborn child's father is. But she tells her that her daughter she had drowned had been posessed by the devil. Peter-Marie tells Governor Devlin that Billinger is insane, and should not be executed. Devlin reduces Billinger's sentence to life imprisonment in a mental institution. As Billinger is being hauled out of Oz, she screams to Peter-Marie that the devil is the baby's father, and she is the virgin mother.

Devlin also tells Warden Glynn to end the lockdown. Tobias Beecher, Vern Schillinger, and Nikolai Stanoslavski are released from the hospital. Chris Keller and Hamid Kahn are released from Solitary Confinement. The inmates of Emerald City are allowed out of their cells now. Raoul Hernandez, Carlos Ricardo, and Guerra are released from Warden Glynn's custody. Hernandez, Guerra, and Ricardo are really mad at Miguel Alvarez, and decide to kick him out of the gang. Peter-Marie informs Alvarez that Eugene Rivera doesn't want to continue with the program, so Alvarez will have to return to Solitary if he doesn't tell Warden Glynn who raped his daughter. Alvarez still refuses to tell. As he is packing his stuff, Ricardo and Guerro try to kill him. Alvarez stabs Ricardo in the stomach, and holds a knife to Guerro's throat. He surrenders when the officers arrive, and Officer Mineo announces that Ricardo is dead. Alvarez is thrown into Solitary, and Ricardo's sister Natalie comes to Oz to claim the body. That night, Warden Glynn comes to Solitary to talk to Alvarez, and Alvarez finally confesses that Carlos Ricardo had been the one who raped Glynn's daughter.

Beecher lets Keller be his cellmate again. Ryan O'Reilly and Hamid Kahn go to Warden Glynn and ask him if the final boxing match can take place, and Glynn tells them yes. Nikolai, wanting revenge against O'Reilly, tells Officer Sean Murphy to go to the gym and find O'Reilly. Murphy goes there, and catches O'Reilly putting chloral hydrate in Kahn's water. Murphy tells O'Reilly that if he finds out that O'Reilly messed with Kahn, he's going to Solitary. O'Reilly and Cyril's father comes to visit them, and all he does is yell at them. During the championship match, O'Reilly tells Cyril to think of Kahn as their father. It works, and Cyril knocks out Kahn. Cyril is the champion, but Kahn is braindamaged. That night, O'Reilly tells Cyril that Kahn's brain is worse that Cyril's now. Cyril, upset, punches O'Reilly five times. Kahn is alive only by life support.

Tim McManus eats lunch with Officer Diane Whittlesy, and he tells her how upset he is over the two untrue sexual harassment charges. When Officer Claire Howell enters, Whittlesy punches her, and they get in a fight. Warden Glynn and McManus argue, and there is obviously tension in the air.

Doctor Nathan removes the bandages from Arnold "Poet" Jackson and Junior Pierce, and their black pigmentation has changed to a whitish tone. They are sent to Unit B. Simon Adebisi tries to convince Officer Clayton Hughes that the one who stabbed his father was a white man. Adebisi begins to pit white against black, and even gets the Muslims to join his cause. Said tries to end this, to no effect. Vern Schillinger asks Nikolai, O'Reilly, Hoyt, Beecher, and Keller to join his causes simply because they are white.

On New Year's Eve, Murphy decides to punish the inmates because Emerald City isn't clean, so he comfiscates all porno magazines. Adebisi asks Augustus Hill to help his causes, and gives him a copy of Hustler magazine. Hill is caught with it, and sent to the Hole. Adebisi uses this opportunity to get every black man in Oz (short of Said) to yell over and over: "Set Hill free!" Warden Glynn decides that Oz should be in lock-down for the immediate future until everything calms down. Howell and Murphy admit that they're scared. When Hughes goes to Glynn and asks him if he ever feels guilty for "caging in his own people", Glynn tells Hughes that his people are the ones who obey the law. Then he fires Hughes. Right before midnight, O'Reilly wishes Cyril a happy new year, Nikolai gets drunk off vodka, Said and Arif pray in their cell, Kahn is still on life support, Hernandez wishes Guerro a happy new year, Keller and Beecher make out, Schillinger and Kenny Wangler argue, and Alvarez tears up everything in his cell, having gone insane. Adebisi discovers agun in his cell, given to him by Hughes. Then the clock strikes 12:00.
