Poor retarded Cyril O'Reilly continued to have nightmares about when he was raped by Vern Schillinger. Schillinger also teased him in the cafeteria.

Cyril went to breakfast without Ryan (his brother), and was tormented by Schillinger and Jim Robson. Cyril freaked out and punched Robson, which landed him in the Hole. Ryan arranged to get Cyril out. When word of an Oz boxing tournament got out, Ryan decided to enter Cyril into it.

He and Ryan's Aunt Brenda came to visit, and told him not to box. Ryan made her shut up, and Cyril was very confused. He was to box Robson, and he won.

William Cudney told Cyril and Ryan the sick way he was sent to prison, and later told Cyril that "God doesn't want him to box". Cyril told this to Ryan, and then Cudney told Cyril that he can box again.

He got into a fight with Jazz Hoyt, and Ryan helped break it up. Officers told Cyril to "be nice" and he agreed to. Ryan told Cyril that he doesn't have to fight all the time, and Cyril replied, "But Ryan, you do."

Right before the final boxing match, Cyril and Ryan were visited by their father, Seamus. Seamus was rude to them and talked of their dead mother as a whore. Cyril told him to shut up, and Seamus punched him. Cyril went away crying. During the final boxing match with Hamid Khan, Ryan told Cyril to think of Khan as their father. Cyril knocked Khan out and became the champion. However, he could tell that he'd hurt Khan badly. That night, he asked Ryan how badly he'd hurt Khan, and Ryan explained that Khan is braindamaged, worse than Cyril. Cyril freaked out and beat Ryan, then cried, and his brother hugged him as he cried.
