Richie was the gay representative of the Emerald City council, and noticed when Ryan O'Reilly's nipple was bleeding. When he overheard that inmate Miguel Alvarez knows who raped Warden Leo Glynn's daughter, Richie told Father Ray Mukada in the hopes that justice will be served. Mark Mack tried to rape Richie, and threatened to kill him "like they killed Alexander Vogel". Richie pleasured Mack, but later a Biker tried to rape Richie and Richie shoved him away... right over a balcony. When he learned he would be charged with murder, Richie confessed that Mack had told him he and Vern Schillinger had killed Vogel. While Richie sat in the Hole, Officer Karl Metzger informed him that "he was a dead man for trying to pin a certain murder on his friends", but he was offered an alternative: confess to the murder of Vogel, and if he receives life he will be allowed to live. Richie decided to confess to Vogel's murder.

1999

He joined Shirley Billinger on Death Row, and she wasn't swayed by the fact that he is gay. Schillinger delivered mail to death row, and had an argument with Richie. Shirley asked Richie why they hate each other, and Richie told her that it is because of Schillinger that he's on death row. Shirley told him to "confess" that he and Schillinger killed Vogel together, which would put Schillinger in the next cell. Richie left death row for his appeal, which was successful. His verdict was overturned and he was to serve the original drug conviction. Richie returned the next day. Nikolai Stanoslavki secretly sliced Richie's throat with a razor blade, because Vogel had been his friend.
