1997

He began to organize other Muslims and convert killers, including Jefferson Keane. Said watched Keane get executed. He was diagnosed with hypertension, and Said refused to take his medication. Husseini Mersaw was sent to Emerald City, and walked away when Said had a heart attack. Said survived, and shunned Mershaw. He received a gun from a Muslim officer, and used it to take control during the riot.

1998

Said tried to get Augustus Hill released, but he failed. He then tried to get Arnold "Poet" Jackson released, for which he was successful. He then defended Vern Schillinger at his hearing, and backed out of the case. Said also was disappointed when Poet returned to Oz after committing murder.

1999

Said began a lawsuit against the state for the riot, and he fell in love with a dead inmate's sister, Patricia Ross. He also agreed to help Tobias Beecher, who was in distress. For these two reasons, fellow Muslim Hamid Kahn shunned Said. Said became good friends with Beecher.

2000

When Kahn died, Zahir Arif took over the Muslims, and allowed Said to follow him. Said won his lawsuit against the state. He agreed to represent killer Jason Cramer in a retrial, and Said unwillingly helped Cramer go free. He objected to the way unit manager Martin Querns ran Emerald City, and joined Simon Adebisi in the hopes of stopping him. In one move, Said got Querns fired and Adebisi's utopia was ruined. Adebisi attacked Said, and Said killed him in self-defense.

2001

Leroy Tidd attempted several times to join the Muslims, but Said angrily refused him every time. Only when Tidd saved the lives of several Muslims from Robson and Hoyt did Said accept him into the Muslims. Tidd, however, had been hired by the Aryans to kill Said. When he attempted to, he vomited and began to change his mind. He told Said of the Aryans' plan, and Aryan inmate Jenkins tried to stab Said, but Tidd jumped in the way and was killed. Said, with Cloutier's help, convinced Jenkins to confess that Robson had hired him. Jenkins committed suicide shortly afterward, forcing Warden Glynn to let Robson out of Solitary. When Said encountered him in the library, he beat the crap out of Robson and was put in the Hole. Tempers raised immensely between the Aryans and Muslims, and war was declared. Said promised to protect Beecher from the Aryans during his parole, which was denied. Schillinger and Robson threatened Beecher in the library, so Said snuck up behind them and stabbed them both.

2002

The war between the Muslims and Aryans continued to escalate when Schillinger and Robson were released from the hospital. Sister Peter-Marie and Beecher convinced Schillinger and Said to meet in an interaction, and Beecher told them both how much alike they were. This didn't seem to quell Said's anger, however, for he attacked a young Muslim for eating during prayer. McManus decided to try and help Said by asking him to help emotionally-sloping Omar White. The two became cellmates, and White, indeed, got on Said's nerves. Said enrolled White in a music program, and was proud when White turned down drugs and sung in front of the inmates. He and White became friends. However, when an Aryan threatened to kill Said, White fought the Aryan and once again returned to Solitary while Said became distraught.

2003

Said and Burr Redding were given the memoirs of Hill, since he was now dead. Said was impressed, and called his publisher to make them into a book. Said was informed that, due to royalties by Hill's ex-wife and the family of the cop he killed, the book was not going to be published. Said was angry, and decided that the Muslims of Oz will publish it themselves and start their own business. He and Arif went to visit a reporter, who pulled out a gun and shot Said several times, killing him.
