1998
Hoyt was a biker immediately assigned to the mail room with Vern Schillinger. He read a letter for old man Robert Rebadow that explained that Rebadow's grandson has leukemia, and the family cannot afford the kid's dying wish. Hoyt organized the inmates and raised enough money to send the kid.
1999
Ryan O'Reilly tried to use Hoyt to get back at Schillinger by creating tension between the bikers and the Aryans, and Hoyt was his pawn. Hoyt attacked Schillinger, and for almost a year there was tension. In late December, Schillinger forgave the bikers for their past problems.
2000
Russian Nikolai Stanoslavski had Hoyt kill Ralph Galino, and then later asked Hoyt to help him kill Ryan O'Reilly. Hoyt refused. The new Emerald City administrator, Martin Querns, transferred Hoyt to Unit B. O'Reilly approached Hoyt and informed him that Nikolai had had Galino killed because of Gulino's cell phone. Hoyt attacked Nikolai, and O'Reilly got ahold of the phone. When questioned, Hoyt refused to know about the phone. Later, Hoyt was retransferred to Emerald City.
2001
Hoyt assisted in humiliating Reverend Jeremiah Cloutier, and later helped seal Cloutier in the cafeteria wall.
2002
Hoyt took full responsibility for sealing Cloutier in the wall and was temporarily sent to Solitary. He returned to Emerald City a short while later. He and Kirk decided to have Jim Burns kill Cloutier before he is able to talk, but Burns received a vision from Cloutier telling him to kill them. When Burns attacked Hoyt and Kirk, Hoyt killed Burns "in self-defense". He was thrown into the Hole, where Cloutier came to him in a vision also, telling him that he is representative of Hoyt's guilt. Hoyt attacked Kirk and stabbed him with a crucifix, and then confessed to all the murders he'd ever committed in his life. He was sentenced to death and transferred to Death Row. He was upset to learn that Kirk had survived and was back in Oz. He lied to Glynn, saying that Kirk had made him kill Burns.
2003
Kirk arrived on Death Row, and Hoyt always yelled insults toward him. During a group shot for a fashion magazine, Hoyt grabbed a flash cube and shoved it into Kirk's mouth, electrocuting him. Hoyt began to get emotional, claming that he has seen the devil everywhere ever since he killed Kirk. Father Mukada and Sister Peter-Marie discussed death row inmate Jazz Hoyt, who was still claiming that he sees the devil. Mukada spoke to a psychologist who'd been treating Hoyt since he was a child, and Mukada was stunned to learn that Hoyt's parents are rich and he had dropped out of Harvard. A psychiatric evaluation was done on Hoyt, proving he was crazy. He was sent to the psych ward, which would hold him until his transfer to the Connolly Mental Institute. Hoyt collapsed on death row with his forehead bleeding. Doctor Nathan diagnosed him with a rare blood condition that causes a person to literally sweat blood. Father Mukada realized that the same thing had happened to Jesus Christ. Mukada spoke to Jazz Hoyt's parents and learned that Hoyt had been adopted. He contacted Hoyt's real mother and convinced her to come visit. After she visited, Hoyt told Sister Pete that, when he'd stabbed Timmy Kirk in the cafeteria, the Bikers had taken Jeremiah Cloutier's body out of the hospital, but would only tell Mukada where. So Mukada asked Hoyt, who was worried that the Bikers would kill him if he told. He still whispered to Mukada the location of Cloutier. While Mukada was pulling bricks out of the cafeteria wall, Biker Sands was stabbing Hoyt to death.
