Sent to Unit B for raping a woman with his friend Adam Guenzel, Winthrop was immediately targeted by the blacks and Aryans as a subject of rape. The Aryans got to him, and Winthrop became their bitch and dressed in drag. When he spoke to Adam, Adam attacked him. When Adam arrived in Unit B, the Aryans gang-raped him while Winthrop watched. Later, Winthrop offered that he and Adam should stick together. However, Adam soon died in an escape attempt, leaving Winthrop once again alone. Tobias Beecher, depressed that he couldn't help Adam, saw young Frank Winthrop in the cafeteria and tried to talk to him, saying that he can help him. Winthrop, though he was frightened and confused, refused Beecher's help, not wanting him to help "like he helped Adam".

2003

Beecher once again pleaded to help Winthrop, who refused. Winthrop was raped once again by Schillinger, and finally offered to become an Aryan soldier if he kills Beecher's father. Schillinger agreed. So Winthrop waited for the right moment and stabbed Beecher's visiting father to death, thus allowing for Winthrop to become a soldier. Christopher Keller approached Winthrop in the gym, wanting to mee with him later in a utility closet. Keller made out with him, but then snapped Winthrop's neck for having killed Beecher's father.
