That October, I was browsing through the TV guide, and looking at the section in it where they review some of the movies that are being shown on TV that week. I read that the RHPS was being shown, but for some reason, I was reluctant to see it, even though I did want to see if Flash was really dressed as Magenta. The TV guide listed it at around 9:00 PM. I missed it.
At about 11:50 PM, my mom came home from a party. We turned on the TV, and we were channel surfing when we heard the strains of "Science Fiction, Double Feature." My mom, thinking the movie was over said it was too bad that we had missed RHPS, because she'd wanted me to see it. I told her we could always rent it from the video store later on. However, the movie wasn't over. We stayed on that channel for a couple of minutes and, low and behold, the movie was just beginning. It was scheduled to show twice that night, once at nine and once at midnight. And I was hooked.
Although I usually go to bed really late, I was incredibly tired that night for some reason, and went to bed some time during the creation scene. However, that Friday (October 29th), I went out and rented the video. I watched it while my parents were entertaining some friends on the main floor (our TV and video machine are on the second floor), as quietly as possible. For some reason, I didn't want my parents friends to know I liked RHPS. Quiet or not, and despite the fact that I didn't understand at least 99% of the movie, I loved it! I must have watched that copy about 5 times before we had to return it to the video store.
On to how my obsession grew...
