The front of Waipi'o.

This page is about the front of Waipi'o Valley. Every one in the valley lives in the front half. Most of the clear land is used for Wetland Taro fields.

The front of the valley is a very wet place, with many streams and a swamp covering most of the space just back from the ocean. All the streams come together before flowing into the ocean.

The valley is about one mile wide at the shore, and most of the year the shore is a black sand beach. However, in the winter the large waves (sometimes as tall as 30 feet) wash out most of the sand, and replace it with rocks.

Underneath are a few pictures that I took around Waipi’o. Click the thumbnails to expand.
