In the north there lies a land of ice and snow called Crystalia. A land of harsh and brutal coldness, which nary anyone but the people who were born and raised there could survive.

The harsh region sprouted a race of giants that became known for their thrill of the battle and their ability to adapt to the harsh environment. The race was divided into family clans, which constantly fought for the lands assets of gold deposits and the sudden discovery of what they call the "crystal" deposits. What the clans called crystals the rest of the world would call diamonds.

The clans would become renown for their breeding of monstrous horses, which would become sacred to them and the warriors developed a kind of animal telepathy with their mounts and would not even name them as it was considered a dishonor to the animal to give it any kind of identity that might make it look like it belonged to someone. The warriors even say a prayer before mounting the horse that he will treat it with the reverence it deserves. The horses became known for their fierceness in battle that matched their rider’s battle lust.

After the first deposits of riches were discovered in the area known as the Fringes small settlements sprouted up and after many clan clashes and battles, the clans united into a council that was to choose the ruling clan that would keep the land united as one so that the valuable resources could be protected. The choosing took the form of bloody and sometimes deadly duels until finally one clan arose as the victors. This clan was the Torren clan.

The first order of business for the clan leader, Heget, was to change the council of clans into a parliament that would help in the everyday business of the new kingdom. But it was known that any final decision was his with no question.

The Torren clan moved from the fringes to the central part of the lands and built the Crystal Palace from which to rule from. A city, Torgat, sprang up around it and the clans sent their representatives there to serve them in the parliament. The Torrens then sent emissaries out to the surrounding kingdoms so that trade could be established for food, which of course could not be grown in any quantity in the frozen wastes. Sometimes clashes with some of these kingdoms, when they found out what riches could be had in the Fringes, were inevitable and the giant warriors and their steeds would ride and protect the Fringes from the would be invaders. No invader has ever been successful in their endeavors. The clans would start training their warriors at the young age of ten years and after training and horse instruction they were required to serve at least five years in the wastes of the Fringes to protect the assets found there. The fringes have always been in a state of conflict and strife since the earliest years of the kingdom.

After many generations of Torren rule there were born to the present king, Jagar and his queen, Ulget five sons of which the youngest was named Iceblade. Even at his full growth of eight feet he was the smallest of the five. At the age of ten he was sent to the Fringes for his servitude and at the early age of eleven had already had many major battles to his claim. When he was twelve he was wounded badly in the Great Battle of Nevgat and was saved by a mercenary that was hired by the local clan chief and a fast friendship developed.
