Kory and Susan Fox's Reef Aquarium

I got into the marine aquarium hobby about 15 years ago when I was in high school. My brother and I tried to do a 30 gallon tank and were largely unsuccesful. Due to lack of funds as high school students, we gave up after about a year. About 5 years ago, my wife's(then girlfriend) mother, gave us a 20 gallon extra tall tank. I decided to try my hand at saltwater again. I quickly learned that the hobby had advanced quite a bit, but a 20 extra tall tank was not the way to go. I then bought a 75 gallon tank used and that became my first reef tank for about 4 1/2 years. I just recently traded that tank for several of corals that you now see in the 180 gallon tank. I got the 180 about in August of 98, again used. I struggled for the first couple of years, trying to learn how to keep things alive. Now that I've figured out the basics, it's well worth it, but it can be very frustrating getting mixed opinions about various things like filtration, lighting etc. etc. It seems to never end. If you're interested in starting a marine aquarium, I recomend you start hanging around one or more of the bulletin boards and/or mailing lists on the internet that are dedicated to the hobby. I happen to moderate one of the boards which you can find at www.reefcentral.com. Check in every now and then for updates on our tank.
