GAME TURN FOUR
Senior Post Captain Sir Robert J. Stark
Sailing Master O’Hara concurs with your course. The
convoy is making good time with the ‘Jana’ out front followed by the ‘Rebecca’
then the ‘Gopher’ and ‘Helen’ behind her to port and starboard respectively and
the ‘Wicca’ behind them. The merchant ships are in a loose diamond formation.
Covering the rear with an alert eye over her little brood is the
‘Watcher.’
‘Watcher’ will drill with small arms. The Marines
seem quite proficient. Lieutenant Watson and Sergeant Baker are on top of
things.
Ships daily activities: Leftenant Fitzroy it seems
in his element keeping the hands busy and conducting sailing drill to better
times as proficiency is already quite good. Leftenant Reams is putting a fine
polish on the gun layers an accuracy is exceptional. Mr MacDonald has been
getting quite frustrated with the Merchantman’s poor signaling ability and
taking it out on Midshipman Steiner. Midshipman Wolf and Kell are both quite
proficient with cutlass and have drilling their sections of seamen. A friendly
competition has arisen between them.
Will look over the log and keep the last captain’s
reward system. Only two merchantman were sited during the first week out, both
British. The first had news of an American Squadron based out of Charleston,
South Carolina. The second had contact with a British Squadron from Kingston
including several Ships of the Line with orders to blockade several American
Ports.
Teach a class in navagation for the midshipman this
will be tough very tough.
They all need practice as they have the basics down
but are very slow at times. Most seem board and prefer gunnery or sailing
drill.
Ship Trim and Signaling 8.0 very good
Bermuda is 32:22:01N 64:40:59W
Kingston Jamaica is 18:00:00N 76:45::00W
The trip would start with an initial heading of
southwest (220.2 degrees)
Bermuda to Kingston Jamaica = 1243miles as the crow
flies = 1080 nautical
miles.
at a speed of 6knots=(6.9 mph)
thats about 165 miles a day so it should take about
7 days.
To the relief of the midshipman in navigation class,
signals started flying up from the ‘Jana’ and ‘Rebecca’. Mr Davion gave a
confused look as he read the ‘Rebecca’s’ flag hoist first as she was closer.
“All ships disengage and withdraw to the east” he reported. He continued in an
excited voice “From ‘Jana’ ENEMY IN SITE bearing directly East. Large American
Frigate. Request instructions”
Turn Four is a turn of preparation and maneuver. A
battle if there is one will be resolved on Turn Five; however actions and prep
of this turn will effect starting positions and effectivenes on the SPI
‘Frigate Battle/Maneuver Board.
