GAME TURN THREE
Turn 2 old stuff
Captain Stark sits back at his desk very glade to be
done with all the
Formalities of reading in and taking command. He
will look over the ships
log .
The 'Watcher' has been a busy ship splitting her
time between enforcing the
numerous blockades and convoy duty. Always-in action
and taking numerous
prizes.
How much has the lash been used?
*The ship’s punishment book show’s Captain Repeen
used the cat sparingly, but was not afreaid to award lashes when the situation
warranted
Was the last Capt. Lenient?
*Strict but with an incentive system of awarding
extra grog or small amounts of money for first ship sightings accurate gunnery,
ect...
First Leftenant Basil Fitzroy " The crew has a
lot of replacements sir, she
took a lot of casualties in that last action, but
we've got a well trained
cadre, over 75% rated able bodied seamen he states
proudly"
" That is exceptional Leftenant I'm shore that
you have had a lot to do
with that" Also Mr. Fitzroy I would have you
send me several suitable
candidates to fill out my staff I need a Coxin a
cook and a clerk thank you
that is all"
*Appropriate personel report later Bars a legal
clerk caught by the pres as your clerk, Kenny best of the ships’s boats coxains
to handle the Captain’s Gig, and Pierre a Frenchman avoiding the prison hulk by
serving inthe Royal Navy but quite skilled as a cook
Midshipman Herman Steiner English with a German
accent "Her Hauptmann
Captain Repeen was a fine officer and it may not be
my place to say this,
but the senior Leutnants are not happy that the
Admiral blocked their
transfer to accompany him."
Well sir their happiness is not my concerns they are
officers in the king
's navy not children on the school yard. You honesty
and candor are greatly
appreciated honesty is always the best policy thank
you midshipman good
day."
*He salutes smartly and doesn’t seem phased by your
remarks. You get the impression he was testing your responses
Purser Mervyn Merrick "Sir, Captain Repeen often paid for extra rations,
tobacco, and fresh fruit for the crew out of his own
pocket. Do you plan to
this as well sir?"
Yes, Mr. Merrick I do
(how much cash do I have any rents back home)
* Adequate to live in the style of a well to do Post
Captain who can afford to spend extra on his ship and crew if he sees fit to do
so
You have a very important position on this ship sir
and at my earliest
conveyance we shell review the ships books together
I like to work closely
with the purser
*The books are accurate and well kept, with frequent
spot checks by the former Captain.
Mr. Merrick
you will also make ready to sail fill out the
ships stores live stock is preferred at to last at
least the first few
weeks.
*He has been keeping a good supply of chickens and
pigs ashore tended by locals and arranges to have them plus a 2 bullocks loaded
Royal Marine Lieutenant Phillip Wilson "Sir the
Royal Marines aboard the
'Willow' have been poorly treated, and their
authority was not upheld
Lieutenant protests. I feel Royal Marine Sergeant
G.J.
I will look in to it.
*Thank you sir, your clerk lator reports he heard
the Lieutenant request several old officers hats be used for marksmanship
practice
Aboard the 'Buffonia' at dinner. Rear Admiral
Medicus looks at Captain Stark
and says 'Watcher' will escort the convoy. It will
give a good chance to
shake her down. By the way how's our young Bavarian
prince?
Do you mean Midshipman Steiner Sir?
*I do
What is he the prince of and do you have orders
about how he should be treated Sir?
*He is a Prince of Bavaria. I’ll be quite blunt he’s
a midshipman in His Majesty’s Navy
and will be treated as such. Captain Stark as you
and I both know this is not a society of equals and nobility needs to be
handled carefully British, German or otherwise. Use your discretion.
***TURN THREE***
At the end of dinner as we are leaving When I he the
clash of arms I will
run to the deck to see what has happened.
*This was a red hearring folks, the midshipman are
having cutlass practice and two of them let their tempers get the better of
them. The Lieutenantof the watch was reprimanded for letting the situation get
out of hand.
After the fight I will return to ‘Watcher’ and get
settled in. I will make a
habit of walking the deck in the late hours of the
night (Rob does not need
much sleep). He will prepare for convoy duty check
over the ship manifest
and personally see to general sea worthiness of
Watcher. I would like to see
the ship in A1 condition before we set sail.
*Overall the ship is excelent shape, but you do
discovered one frayed rope on a bow chaser.
In the morning I will take a boat to town and
provision myself for our time
at sea I will lay in supplies so that I can dine in
my officers occasionally
I would like good wine not A+ but B some special
food that will hold up and
of course a good supply of pipe tobaccos. I would
also like to some kind of
reading material possibly something written by an
American revolutionary
(know your enemy kind of thing).
*You find several works on the current war, that are
marginally useful having been written by high ranking nobles with moderate
service in theater of operations. Cabin Stores on the other hand are plentiful,
reasonabily priced and available in good quanity.
The convoy consists of the ‘Rebbecca’ carrying
uniforms, tents and wagons, ‘Gopher’ carrying powder and shot, ‘Helen’ carrying
two companies of British Regulers, and the ‘Wicca’ no cargo manifest provided.
Your destination is Kingston, Jamaca. At first light the ‘Watcher’ received the
following signal from the flagship. “ CAPTAIN GILES COMPLIMENTS, MAKE SAIL PER
ORDERS RECEIVED, BEST WISHES.
TURN FOUR
Should cover the first week of your voyage, assume
moderate weather a fair wind that allows an average speed of six knots. Bonus
points give me your best course and approximate distance travelled. (I don’t
need a compass bearing but a general direction East By North and 100 miles for
exampe; note any navigation hazards or nearby enemy threats)
