Veterans

Dedicated to Richard Vaughn Wing

January 4 1921, to March 3, 2001
World War II and Korea

There is so much I can say about my grandfather. How much he was loved by his family and friends, all of which he considered family, can never be put into words. Not only did he bravely serve and love his nation, he loved his family and his friends with all his heart.

When most people think of war, they think of death and destruction. Images of the Holocaust seem to enter the mind most; images of people starved, and beaten. Of humans being cruel to one another for no apparent reason.

What I tend to think of is the Veterans. So many times they are forgotten and left out of discussions of war. In American History classes, the history of particular wars are always discussed; how it started, who was involved, military technology, but hardly is there ever mention of the aftermath for the soldiers. What of the people who participated in those wars? Who saw the reality of what is taught from a little book? We know very little of them.

It makes me so sad to think that Veterans are treated poorly by people, they are overlooked and forgotten because they are old men and women now. Yet, once they were the same age as I am, as everyone else in this world. When younger then I am now, they enlisted into the nations Air Force, Army, Navy, or Marines and risked everything they ever knew because they believed in something.

This section of my page is dedicated to all the brave men and women who served this nation, who gave everything and risked so much because they believed. I thank you for all you have lost and all you have done.
