Judge Orders Alabama Motels And Hotels To Remove All Reference To The
Ten Commandments From Bibles
At issue, commandment number Seven, "Thou shalt not commit adultery". Thompson ruled Commandment number seven violated the right to "Freedom of Choice", guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution.
Last month, an Alabama swingers group calling itself, "Adulterers of America", launched a class action law suit against Alabama motel and hotel operators for providing cheap and dirty rooms for purposes other than overnight accommodations, while at the same time condemning their actions. In their suit, "Adulterers of America" contended, "The inclusion of the Ten Commandments in bibles provided by the operators are in direct breach of their God given right to cheat on their spouse(s)".
"Adulterers of America", also threatened to take all their swinging business to the State of Utah if their demands were not met.
In his ruling, Thompson agreed with "Adulterers of America", his order takes effect immediately; operators not in compliance face a fine of $29.95 per-night.
Paul Freshman, a founding member of "Adulterers of America", was elated with Thompson's ruling, "This is a good day for adulterers everywhere", said Freshman.
"I feel our demand was fair and balanced, we weren't asking for the
removal of the Bible, only specific pages. In fact, some of our members
feel the Bible plays a very important part of their recreational
activities. Some use it to swear they don't have any STD's and others hold
it close when praying for forgiveness after encounters of the Adulterous
kind".
