The following story was told to Sarah M. Keen of Shawnee, OK by Llewellyn Ross Keen on 6-22-1986: Mrs. Sally (Childs) Pearson's husband went out to feed one day and did not return. He was never seen by anyone or heard of again. It was during the war and it was assumed he was bushwhacked. Mrs. Sally (Childs) Pearson was pregnant at the time this happened. She went to live with some old maid sisters. When the child was born, it was a girl, named Aseneth Ann "Cena/Sene" Pearson.
Mrs. Sally (Childs) Pearson's brother by the name of Llewe Childs. This Llewe Childs raised Aseneth Ann "Cena/Sene" Pearson. Aseneth Ann Pearson married Hugh Rufus Ross May 25, 1878 in Howard Co, AR. When "Cena Ann" had her ninth child in April, 1896, at Galena (near Umpire), Howard Co, AR, Uncle Llewe Childs told "Cena Ann", "If you will name the child after me, I will see to her needs." This he could do, as he owned a general store, possibly at or near Galena. He stood by his promise, furnishing Llewellyn Moore Ross's clothing, etc. Uncle Llewe's wife's name was "Tene". Llewellyn Moore Ross remembers her sister (Lee Ross) tagging along with her to the store and looking longingly at the new clothing Great Uncle Llewe Childs was giving Llewellyn. Llewellyn remembers one dress in particular, giving a detailed description of it. Llewellyn Ross' father (Hugh Rufus) decided to move elsewhere, possibly to the Nashville/Mineral Springs area. Llewellyn remembers that she might have seen Great Uncle Llewe Childs ONE time after her father and family moved.
The following story was told to Sarah Keen by Lavada & Kelsie Keen on 29 June 1986:
At this point of time, the Thomas family lived across and down the road from Aunt Lee Ross and Uncle John Cotton. Shortly after Uncle Henry J. Ross died (March 26, 1944), his widow Nannie E. Musgraves came from Broken Bow, OK and visited with Mrs. Thomas for a couple of weeks. Nannie Musgraves was related to either Preacher Thomas or Mrs. Thomas. Preacher Thomas was a distant relation to Llewellyn Ross Keen. He knew Llewellyn's mother Aseneth Pearson Ross. Preacher Thomas knew of Indian blood in the Ross family. Llewellyn Ross Keen may have been as much as 1/8 Indian. Preacher Thomas teased Llewellyn about it from time to time, because he knew it would make Llewellyn mad. Llewellyn did not like to admit the "fact" existed.

John Archie Ross met Helen Mary Sherwood while working on the RR in New Jersey. Wickes Arkansas in June of 1966. Arch is in that photo, in a wheelchair. John Archie Ross' sister Ophelia died (mid 50's?) he was at the funeral near [Mineral Springs] Nashville, Howard Co., Arkansas, and was using a cane at that time.
Oral tradition was that Arch rode against Pancho Villa when in the army abt. 1916. Woodrow Wilson, US-Mexico border, troops to Texas/New Mexico. In April, 1915, Brigadier General John J. Pershing and his 8th Infantry Brigade were sent to Fort Bliss, Texas with the mission of guarding the U.S.- Mexico border from Arizona to a bleak outpost in the Sierra Blanca mountains ninety miles southeast of El Paso attacked the 13th U.S. Cavalry at Camp Furlong near Columbus, New Mexico. The commander was Colonel Frank Tompkins. The location was Camp Furlong. 1916 Signal Corps Aviation Service, 1st Aero Squadron. then George S. Patton.

Funeral Services Held Sunday For Mr. Isaac Ross Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Umpire Sunday afternoon for Isaac F. Ross father of Mrs. D.B. Dragoo of Hope. Mr. Ross died at his home at Umpire last Saturday. Officiating at the services was Rev. T.F. Westbrooks, while burial was made under the direction of the Howard County Burial Association. Among those attending the funeral were Mrs. Mary S. Goodman and Miss Sallie. Timberlake of McNab; and the following persons from Hope: Miss Gwendolyn Frith, Mrs. Lorraine Blackwood and children, Mr. and Mrs. J. Niece, Mrs. Phil Burns, Mrs. Ed L. Lane, and Rev. and Mrs. Elbert O'Steen.
