Daniel Lee represented Johnson County in the state legislature in 1868. In 1871, when a new county was created, he was chosen as the first county treasurer. In 1873, he was one of the three commissioners chosen to locate a more suitable site for the seat of justice within the county, purchased lands for that purpose, laid out and sold lots to obtain funds for erecting public buildings, and performed other necessary duties. At this time, Ellsworth was selected as the new county seat. Daniel Lee also served as justice of the peace and by occupation he was a wagonmaker and blacksmith. In 1891, he had stated that he had killed more than 500 deer during his years of residence in Arkansas. Daniel Lee lived in Clark Township just west of the present Subiaco, AR city limits and records show he had inherited the land from his father, William S. Lee. From Logan County, Arkansas Historical Society excerpts.

Daniel was a strong supporter of the Union in the Civil War Era. During this time, he had to flee to the mountains to the south for safety, but was fired upon by bushwhackers. He was shot in the chest and was forced to hide out until he could find a safe haven with fellow Union sympathesizer's. Daniel's three sons served in the Union in Company H, 1st Arkansas Infantry Volunteers. From Logan County, Arkansas Historical Society excerpts.

Susan A. Redden's father, William Redden from South Carolina and his wife Milly Berks Redden from Georgia were married in Georgia, went to TN and from TN to AR and settled in what is now Logan Co., AR in the Johnson Township in 1836. They farmed and had 13 children. Milly died about 1856 and William died about 1880. William was a farmer by occupation and was drafted in the War of 1812, went to Norfolk, and after the close of the war discharged. Milly was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Johnson County History book.

This old graveyard is about 1 1/2 miles west of Subiaco, about 1/4 mile north of Highway 22, it is on private land, where the Vogelpohl and Needham farms meet. In the past, this land belonged to William and Dicey Lee and to their descendents, and to William's brothers, Jeremiah and John Lee who came from Johnston County, N.C. with William Lee to Arkansas. Between the three of them, they owned approximately 1000 acres within 2 miles of Subiaco, purchased from the U.S. government by 1860. Logan County cemetery records.
