Notes on Elihu Embree Rose's family
Elihu's father, John Wilson Rose, was born in Tennessee in 1821. When he was 8 years old his family left Terre Haute, IN. He was from a family of 12 children. He married at age 21 to Elizabeth X and they had 5 children. Elizabeth died between 1852 and 1837 and they had 11 chldren. They left IN late in 1877 or early in 1878 for Arkansas in a covered wagon being pulled by Clydesdale horses to seek a better life. They settled at Belleville, Arkansas in Yell County. When they arrived John Wilson Rose was a very ill man. Their son, George Howard was born 5 Feb 1878. John Wilson died on 22 Feb 1878. Then a son, John William was born in 1875, died 19 June 1878. Mary Ann Rose saw a lot of heartaches with the death of her loved ones. She raised her family with the help of her older children.
Elihu Embree Rose met Anna Lee while he was working in Subiaco helping build the Abbey. After their marriage, they bought a farm in 1911 from Reason "Babe" Lee, about 2 miles of Subiaco in Logan County, AR.
