Joe was a blacksmith and foremost a wagon maker during the days hen wagon making was a highly desirable occupation. He obtained his start in his trade in the Dublin, Arkansas area for the late C. N. Geren, later moving to old Blaine, Russellville, Paris, Branch and lastly Fort Smith. He continued his blacksmithing after he retired. He would do odd jobs now and then that required his skills in bending and melding metals. Joe also was a practicing veterinarian working with farm animals.
