John L. Walton, Obion, TN, enlisted in the Confederate Army as a volunteer on 1 Jun 1862. The records from Washington, D.C. show that he was a Private, Kentucky Calvary, Company 3, Regiment 2, Duke's Command, Morgan's Brigade. He was wounded and captured in Salineville, Ohio, in 1963. He was a prisoner at Camp Chase, Ohio, being transferred to Fort Delaware in 1864. He was released on 9 Jun 1865. Information from The Longest Raid of the Civil War by Lester V. Horwitz.

He worked for Johnson Brothers, Guy Johnson (Paris) & Earl Johnson (Clarksville), at the Binkley Coal Co. & Sunshine Mine (also called the Ruby Glow Mine)".

Walton came to Clarksville in 1931, and served as foreman of the Ruby Glow Mining Company until five years ago, when ill health forced his retirement".
