William & Dicey Lee were members of the Hard Shell Baptist Church
1845- 150 acres in Horsehead Creek section signed for by William Lee and wife Dicey. From Johnson County, Arkansas Probate Records; Deeds; Wills; Estates; 1840 Census List; & 1835 Tax List.
A notation left from an unknown source, wrote, "William Lee or Will was a boy during the Civil War, I've heard grandma said a deer attacked him one time. She also said they were brought to the old fort here in Ft. Smith for safety measures. The women that went through the Civil War really had a hard time."
History written from an unknown source, wrote, "William Lee and his wife Dicey Ennis Lee, with their older three sons and two daughters, migrated with his brothers and their families into Tennessee in 1828. Five more children were born to this couple while they were in Tennessee; then they moved to Marshall Co., MS where their eleventh child, James Henry was born. The family arrived in Arkansas in 1837, built a log cabin at Paint Rock. William Lee and some of his sons acquired land in the Clarksville-Spadra area in 1840, as reflected by Johnson County land records. His third son, Lovett Lee and family was still there when their son Robert was born in Spadra in 1851."
A notation on Britton and Lovett Lee families; "They moved their families from Spadra to the south, settling near the present Paint Rock-Calico Mountain (Logan Co., AR) vicinity. The Paint Rock Cemetery had its beginnings on the Britton Lee farm, when his six year old son, George, was killed by a falling oak tree. The men had been cutting a tree to use in making wooden wheels for oxcarts. George Lee was the first grave at Paint Rock Cemetery, four miles south of Paris, Arkansas on Highway 109."
By 1854, most of the Lee's had moved to homes south of the river, most of them in Clark, Johnson, and Titsworth Township. Daniel R. Lee, the eldest son of the William Lee's, lived in Clark Township just west of the present Subiaco city limits. Anquilla, wife of Daniel Smith, lived 1 1/2 miles east; William Ira Lee is thought to have lived near brother Daniel. A mile southward in Greasy Valley lived James Henry Lee. Mary Lee and her husband, John A. Johnson, lived by James Henry Lee. Winaford Lee moved with husband, James Cravens to Prairie View.
William Lee was a strong supporter of the Union during the Civil War.
