SLA Industries

There is a universe that was torn apart by wars between species. Nearly all of these Conflict Races are dead now, only four remain, plus one created one. From the rubble of the Conflict Wars, a great company arose, called SLA (slay) Industries, owned and presided over by a man known only as Mr. Slayer. He stands nine feet tall, with a death's-head like face and long flowing hair with a streak of silver. He is accompanied by a waif-like but indestructible warrior named Intruder, last known member of his race, the Kilneck. Slayer's race is unknown, and presumed destroyed. There is another in this little cadre: Senti, a mysterious witch with the power to create Biogenetic life. Of these three, Slayer is undoubtedly the master. SLA Industries works towards The Big Picture, but only Mr. Slayer knows what that is.

Of the Conflict Races, only a few survived. Humans are by far the most numerous, and are the principal consumers of the World of Progress, as the Universe is now known. Intruder managed to save a race of noble warriors, the Shaktar. He is their messiah. Likewise, Senti saved a cold race of hunters, the ultimate survivors: the Wraith Raiders. As part of Slayer's Big Picture, Senti also created the Stormers, a race of Biogenetic warriors, based on Intruder's genetic code. Their huge, monstrous shapes are the manifestation of Intruder's rage at this impossible life he is cursed to live, in atonement for some unknown deed. Lastly, there are the Ebons, human offshoots capable of utilizing the Ebb, spiritual energies emanating from The White, a strange energy field emanating both from White Earth and from Mort, the capital of the World of Progress. Intruder nurtured the Ebon race as his spiritual children; it is he who taught them to manipulate the Ebb. There are two offshoots of the Ebons: the Brain Wasters, a breed of Ebon Warrior. While all Ebons are in acute touch with their emotions, Brain Wasters are a kettle of rage boiling over. Then there are the Necanthropes. The final evolution of Ebon kind, Slayer says. They control Ebon society, under the fist of the Preceptor Teeth, the first and most horrid Necanthrope.

Nobody knows what the Big Picture is. The average citizen of the World of Progress lives in a cramped world-city where it rains constantly and the sectors are just stacked one on another. The higher you go, the richer you are. At the bottom there are the Cannibal Sectors, diseased and ridden with cannibals, carnivorous pigs, Manchines, Carriens (a race of humanoid rodents that prey upon Downtown and occasionally Suburbia), and worse. The World of Progress is the ultimate capitalist society, run by one all-powerful company. While SLA has a standing army to deal with the forces of subversive Rival Powers like Thresher, Inc., or DarkNight, and a corporate police force, the Shivers, to deal with riots and crime, their worlds are plagued by monsters, both human and otherwise.

When a Serial Killer or subversive insurgency threatens the workings of the World of Progress, SLA Industries sends in its Operatives. These souls serve as investigators/SWAT teams, and as media stars. The media, controlled by SLA, is glutted with violence. Television is the opiate of the masses and is one of the principle ways SLA controls the World of Progress. The Operative is a star and a warrior in the service of SLA Industries. If he or she or it succeeds, then they are handsomely rewarded. If they fail, they die at the hands of their foes.

SLA Industries is absolutely ruthless in its protection and forwarding of The Big Picture. One is brought up to believe that working for SLA brings the greatest rewards and that it is truly the only option. Those that resist are destroyed, and even those that have not been, well, they have fought for nearly 900 years and made little headway at all. The Truth is indeed out there in this World of Progress, but it is zealously gaurded by agents of SLA, like Cloak Division and its ruthless Dark Finders, or like the unseen and unknowable agents of Stigmartyr, Slayer's own personal watchdogs. As well, there are organizations like Black Chapter, the Shivers, and indeed, every Operative and employee and misled citizen. One can learn the truth, but doing so, even in little bits, without authority granted by Slayer, almost always leads to death.

But that doesn't stop people from trying, or attempting to resist. But most would just tell you to go with the flow, try and get rich, or to just survive. And forget your fellow man, because he's forgotten you.
