"Trivia Pursuit" to review material
GRADE LEVEL/SUBJECT: 3-12
This could be used in any grade level and for any subject.
OVERVIEW:
save a one-half hour time slot on Fridays for review of the week's material which could be in any one or more subject areas. The game format used is Trivia Pursuit.
PURPOSE:
This is an excellent way to review material covered. This can be done throughout the year for the week's work or accumulatively for the unit or even the year's work.
OBJECTIVES:
The students should be able to recall information orally and cooperatively by responding to the question after discussing responses within their group.
RESOURCES/MATERIALS:
Record a question on one side of a 3x5 card and the answer on the reverse side. These are kept filed in a box and once made are reusable each year.
The file may continually be updated. It does take some time to do the preliminary work but then it is just a matter of updating. These may be pulled out and used as sponges also.
ACTIVITIES AND PROCEDURES:
Since this is a game format, the students usually request it which enhances the learning of the material plus the added benefit of working cooperatively. They may even use this in their spare time for a "work finished" activity.
TYING IT ALL TOGETHER:
A question is read to the entire class and everyone is to listen. Then a group is selected (randomly, coin toss, etc.) to answer. A time limit may be given and then a selected spokesperson stands up and gives the group's consensus of the correct answer. If correct they receive a point. If incorrect, I reread the question and choose the first hand up at the conclusion of the question. That group discusses and responds. If correct, they receive a point and we return to the sequence in the group order for the next question. If incorrect, we discuss the correct answer and continue.
