DIETZ LANTERNS AVAILABLE IN THE TIDEWATER VIRGINIA AREA & NORTHEASTERN NORTH CAROLINA
I started this little sideline after going through the Huricane Isabel aftermath. We were without power for about 7 days and I had a couple of old Dietz kerosene lanterns (#10 Monarch Style) and everyone that stopped by was amazed at how well they worked and they liked the look of the lantern also. I told a few people that I would try and find them a couple but I was very suprised to find out that they are not to be found anywhere around here. You used to be able to find them in just about any hardware store but all you can find here now are the wicks. So I am going to try and remedy this lantern shortage. I prefer Dietz lanterns because they are the standard that other companies try to copy they have been in business for over 100 years and they still produce a quality product and if for some reason you break the glass or lose the filler cap you can get replacement parts.
:
The lantern on the left is called a D-LIGHT it gives off up to 12 CP (Candle Power) the main advantage of this lantern is the size and the round globe. It's about 13 inches high and the round globe is easy to clean it will hold about 23 hours worth of fuel.
:
The lantern in the center is called the Crescent. It's about 15 inches high and has the traditional chimney type glass it will hold about 23 hours worth of fuel. Some people choose this one over the D-Light because it has a different look but it puts out the same amount of light.
:
The lantern on the right is called the MONARCH it is what they call a hot blast lantern which works well inside because if you take a look at the design you will see that the exaust goes up in the top and gets recirculated through which allows it to have less of an odor. This one is my favorite:
:
The best lantern fuel to use in my opinion is called CLEAN HEAT you can get this at most Home Depot or Lowes stores. It costs aroud 5.00 per gallon jug and the reason that I like it is that it burns very clean and gives off very little odor. Normally with regular kerosene or lamp oil you get a soot buildup on the glass after a while but since I have been useing CLEAN HEET I have not had to clean off a glass yet, so I recommend that you use this.
